Do we need a hard man in the team?

No as it means we'll be changing our tactics which means there's are working the referees and discipline needs sorting out the club needs to be more vocal in the media start putting pressure on the authorities

No we need refs to protect our players, certain ex players to stop advocating the need to give our players a kick, correct disciplinary action taken against shocking tackles on our own players and for shit fucking shit fucking footballers in this fucking country, to actually watch and learn from our players, rather than try to end seasons or worse end careers.
I was going to respond to the op, then seen this post and this post says it all.

A real hardman in our team like we had with Barry de jong to protect our more gifted players in the mould of a viera Keane(spits) gattuso?? Thoughts

Gareth Barry was/is a "hard man"???
If that's your standard then I think we already have a few...

Ederson
Walker
Otamendi
Fernandinho
Kompany
Delph...

None of them stand any shit.

But the thing is, apart from Barry (I still don't really get why he makes your list) you name players that are long gone. Football has moved on. City have moved on.

Can you name any current players that fit the bill and would get anywhere near our squad?

For the Premier league, Kyle Walker is the template of the player we need. He's tough, durable, physical but controlled, he concentrates for 90 minutes and is mentally composed even when provoked. Plus he's more than competent technically. A couple more like him in the squad, would take the pressure off the others when the games stack up.

We need the whole team to react to these challenges the way Barcelona did under Guardiola when they were getting kicked to bits. Not nice to watch but now I understand why they were so quick to surround the ref and pressure him to send players off.

I think we are seeing that what we have been doing is right. EVERYONE (even the c***s in the media who hate us!) is on our side now, and it is the refs that are being made to look like feckless pricks, not the manager or the players for taking matters into their own hands. Sometimes, it is very hard to do the right thing, but doing it is almost always the correct course of action.

If anything, this latest assault might well be the tipping point that gets us the protection we need to get to the end of the season without having to worry about being hacked to death by all and sundry.

The opposition should have had FOUR red cards in the last THREE games. We are not going to get those back, but this should be the point at which it stops. If not, then we will ALL know what we think we already know...English football is bent in favor of a few select clubs, and we are not considered one of them!

I would pay charlie adam 50 k a week just to come on on 85 mins and nobble any offenders.
I've been thinking that since yesterday, but I had Pepe in mind. They'd come on, mete out the justice, get sent off. They'd only have to do it 2 or 3 times before the penny dropped with the opposition and they stopped doing it and started to play football instead. The refs are useless.

Why fix something that isn't broken?
How many points clear are we ?
No so - called hard man required for me.
KEEP THE FAITH
C.T.I.D

I did want us to bring a loon on at the end of the Spurs game as Alli was obviously due a word.....however,It's already been said, those days are long gone for us as our football usually doesn't require such a tactic. It just so happens we have suffered recently at the hands if some piss poor officials. One thing is certain though, none of our players are soft anyway, they can all look after themselves.

cant think of any hardmen in the premier league now , supposedly players like Dinho , Henderson, Matic are the new enforcers/defensive midfielders , having been brought up on the likes of Mike Doyle , Gerry Gow , Morrison , the game has changed so much even Buzzer used to kick his opposing full back first "to let him know he was there" . We have Walker , Vinny when fit and Dinho who can look after themselves , but the biggest enforcers should be the officials and they are letting our club down at the moment , there should have been four red cards in our last three games without a doubt , to be fair we play the game so quickly and accurately its very rare the opposition get the chance to get near us. Big 6ft 6 inch plodders like the Rags have in their team are not the future only a dinosaur like PEG would contemplate signing player for his brawn over his technical ability , hence their turgid moronic football style.

A regular first team hard man would be a pointless waste of a starting position... but I do like the idea of bringing on someone in the 85th minute, someone who is entirely expendable and of no importance to the squad, with the sole intention of them exacting retribution on anyone who has committed an unpunished assault on one of our players during the game.

a proper and ever present captain would be nice nothing against kompany but we really could do with the likes of keane, vieira, adams, gerrard or terry.

But back then the other teams weren't trying to cripple us because we weren't as dominant as we are now. What is happening now is 100% a new tactic managers have thought up to stop us. They tried pressing us, they tried long balls, they tried parking the bus and now they are onto plan D which is to kick our best players off the pitch. If we tried fighting fire with fire you could stick your mortgage on that player being shown a red card instantly.
Spot on. Some are just venting angst from yesterday but the days of hack us and see what you get are long gone thnakfully

So how will that have stopped Kev getting his legs taken out yesterday? This hardman wish is simply bollocks and as others have said, we simply need the FA & refs to do their job

agree wholeheartedly, refs need to be stronger, puncheons only aim was to wipe kev out, it was reckless and dangerous, it may be their only weapon to try and stop us but the refs need to stand up and be counted and apply the laws of the game and dish the red cards out.
having a hard man in the team would not of prevented yesterday

Sadly they don't. Never will.
The season is over regarding the title. The fa don't want that. They want their product to remain interesting. With these assaults two things happen. One there is a miniscule of a chance we'll be caught and two the bitters the world over will tune in for a gloat. No sorry the fa will certainly do nothing.
