Do we need a LB?

Have we got anyone coming through who could do a better job than Clichy?

Until this season I've not been arsed. They have rotated well and been successful for us. But Clichy has just deteriorated so badly after being defensively rock solid in his first years here. He does not look cut out to play at our level anymore. The problem is quota, we only have 1 spare non-HG spot so without selling anyone, do we use that on a left-back or winger...? I'd definitely keep Kolarov, he has an excellent cross and has some fight in him. I really like Angelino in the academy but I doubt he is anywhere close to ready yet.

This was my concern when we signed Willy and Sagna, they felt like a poor use of our non-HG spots that we might of used better elsewhere (a LB and a LW). We need a first choice leftback and there is not a HG one that is good enough imo.

Gibbs looks very good, but is injury prone and at a club who no longer are under pressure to sell unless a player runs down his deal. If we went and signed a foreign left-back, we basically couldn't sign this winger everyone seems to want, unless we bought HG (Sterling maybe and stick him out wide).

I think we have to go for a foreign LB, we need it more than any other position at the moment. Could we not go with Jovetic as the LW? If we want to bring in a new foreign left winger then maybe we have to let one of him or Nasri go to make space? We could sell Navas if we could find a quick, direct winger available who can play either wing instead?

We should have bought an English back up GK, and Sagna is useless compared to zaba, should buy trippier back imo. Sell navas and buy reus and sell dzeko while we're at it.

Unless, we don't offer Demichelis new contract, then we would have another foreign spot. But there has been some talk of him getting 1 year extension so.. tough call to be honest.

The HG quota kind of dicates that kolarov would leave before Clichy, although I'd prefer it the other way round.

Doesnt matter who plays when Silva is the left midfielder...

Anytime when Milner starts on left the fullback behind him is more comfortable too. As he doesnt have to deend always with looking out for a winger and a fullback too. Silva rarely tracks back, and for that reason I feel sorry for our leftback in those games but thats down to Pellegrini he wants us to suffer defensively on the let in return Silva might be good from the let, but usually ends up in him going center where he is so much better...

Better leftbacks than ours would be under so much pressure when Silva is their only help on the left...

But yeah Clichy's form and ability to go forward is mediocre.

If we moved for Clyne to replace Sagna this frees up one spot.

Sell or part-ex Nasri and Toure, and maybe Dzeko too and sign the younger, mentally stronger players we all want.

Reus, Pogba, Barkley, Bale, and either Rodriguez or Kurzawa.
