Do you support the RMT?

Whilst I agree with the right to strike and that people should be paid a living wage you can't help but feel with the latest strikes that some people will lose sympathy with the rail workers as it is increasingly becoming a service you cannot use. If it's not strikes it's the dreaded replacement bus services most weekends. Having to travel from London on a train that has not been cleaned for weeks sometimes can lead you to look for alternative transport.

Why would a reasonable person lose sympathy with the workers because a company can not run a satisfactory service when there is no industrial action?

Can't help but feel this is a major own goal.

Mick Lynch and RMT have generally been very good PR wise so I assume they're really desperate to so something that will let them be painted as "ruining Christmas".

Most people in ‘support’ of these strikes don’t actually have a clue about the working conditions, pay, contracts etc of the workers or what the Government is offering

They watch a brief Twitter video here and there and a few soundbites and just say they support the strikes as it’s an easy target at the Government.
Imagine posting that and implying other people know nothing. Shit takes are your speciality.

I've no clue on the ins and outs and the contact/conditions being offered - should imagine there's so many different levels and work roles which each have different demands that it's pretty tough to have a real full picture of what is fair or not - I'm not supporting the government on this and I will keep cheering RMT and other industries that are striking but I know equally that I'm not exactly qualified to be 100% in this corner as I don't work in any of them

Just because you haven't got a clue it doesn't mean nobody else does.

I’ve no idea about the ins and outs of Royal Mail finances. Clearly the amount of ordinary mail that gets posted has reduced dramatically over the years. And will continue to do so. But it’s still an incredible service they offer when you think about it. Stick a letter in a box conveniently situated at the top of your road and have it delivered personally to an address maybe 400 miles away for less than the price of a pint of milk. None of the new kids on the block are offering anything that can compete with that.
Its fuckin amazing that you can post a letter in lands end and it gets to john o groats next day for a quid or whatever. But with less n less letters being sent then how longs that sustainable? Surely then RM become just another delivery company and if the posties are saying “well im not doing this or that or the other” i worry they are hurrying on the decline

And ill check but yes rm lost in the region of £400m

Because we don't live in a reasonable society I guess. And we have a government which like the Thatcher one are determined to not give in to the unions.

Well if people don’t want to be reasonable that’s up to them. Bottom line is public support is nice and appreciated but it won’t play any part in how this dispute is resolved.
