ORR Stats are that 322m rail journeys were made in the quarter Apr-Jun 2022. The Xmas strikes will impact 2m journeys over 24th to the 27th - hardly going to ruin Xmas in my view

Not but it's a good emotional headline for the media. Most people who are unfortunate to have to travel over the festive period try to do so prior to these peak dates as I s hell on earth even without strikes.

Royal Mail announced record profits in March, the majority of which was shelled out in dividends. The figure you quote is projected losses for the current year.
Given that while we were out and about delivering those record profits the company was issuing profit warnings I'd take that figure with a pinch of salt.
Fair do’s

I'd contest the 'skeleton service' on the 27th.

It used to be the more limited bank holiday service, but in recent years it's been a standard bank holiday/Sunday service. It's far from skeleton in my experience.

With the West Coast line being cut at Rugby after Christmas, it'll make train travel to London even more of a lottery.

It depends on what you view as skeleton. Okay a reduced service.

Bloody hell so how do people get to Euston after Rugby? Change to a local service?

do the workers see the RM in 10 years? More a parcel service than letters?

I tend to travel on 27th a fair bit getting home after Christmas. The worst I came across was when Paddington engineering overran (by days, I think), and getting from Chippenham to London took hours longer than it should.

I think it's a bus from Rugby to Milton Keynes, and then another train. The rail replacement bus on a mainline with Christmas luggage will be hellish.
Some of the lines into Euston are being engineered too, I think.

Yes they plan all the major engineering works on bank holidays.

I had to commute twice a month from Manchester to Dover for 24 years it was never something I enjoyed.
