Do you support the RMT?

It’s an illusion of freedom of opinion…the next pub landlord who dares to think about expressing an opinion does what? Keeps his mouth shut that’s what, for fear of being the next target of a BTUC motion.
It wasn't freedom of opinion. He barred them from his pub.

So essentially you were putting words in someone else's mouth.

It was stll nonsense. Public sector workers pay for private pay rises (have you seen the increase in bus driver's pay), not just vice versa.

And of course "rising inflation" is a tautology. Now if you'd said "rising rate of inflation"...
Second derivative. Inflation can rise, fall, or hold constant. It’s not a difficult concept.

I do get your point and I’d say I’m probably of the mindset that this episode is fine as it’s a rare occasion that the unions get a “win” as opposed to losing battles against their bosses/the govt.

In an ideal world they wouldn’t be lashing out against a small business, I think that’s fair to say. I guess industrial action is a very emotive time for those involved (he says from his cushy marketing desk job…)

I couldn’t disagree with your freedom from consequences point. It’s the disproportionateness of the consequences that rankles with me. As you say emotions are running high, all the more reason union leaders - at all levels - should be demonstrating cool and considered heads.

Increasing.

Oct/Nov this year

Go-Ahead London bus drivers win 10.5% pay rise
Arriva bus drivers win 11.1%
Stagecoach drivers in South Yorkshire 10.7%
Arriva Kent drivers 14%

All of these awards were made after industrial action took place. Who pays? The companies do. How do they fund it? Either by accepting they will make a reduced profitability or fare rises. So anyone using a bus eventually pays, that will include doctors nurses civil servants firefighters all those people being told they have to accept a real terms pay cut.

Yes, that’s right. Everyone pays for the industrial action.

Bus drivers hover slightly over minimum wage which is going up 9.7% itself.

It is a tough job for the money. Loads of people are getting 9,7% without threatening to strike. I fully support lower paid workers getting good pay rises, but people on higher salaries need to me more realistic.

The worst thing is a middle class wally trying to turn it into a class thing using exaggerated Estuary English, trying to make everything a fight, rather than being progressive. When my pay deal was agreed the union wasn't bothered about telling us, they wanted us to reject it. It took 6 days for the union to send an email. The employer informed us in 2 days, assuring us it would be in our salaries that month.

Bus companies haven't got Tory governments telling them what not to pay (but they are compensating bus companies for signing up for £2 flat fares).
