Do you support the RMT?

You really need to educate yourself before posting such guff.

Because of Tory Govt legislation any attempt to strike can only be called by winning the approval of members in a ballot which is what was done. However that same legislation means that mandate has a time limit imposed of 6 months to be valid ( you may recall the nurses strike recently where they and Govt went to court to establish the final day they could strike due to the mandate ) and once that 6 month period has passed no further industrial action can be taken without a new mandate. Its an imposition imposed by the Govt to restrict workers rights and impose costs upon the unions with a view to breaking them.

So yesterday was the final day of the Unions valid mandate. Future actions will require a new mandate. They are not being twats they are fighting for a future safe railway for you and me - for a strike to be effective it will cause inconvenience but not to the people who own the franchises - don't worry about them they are reimbursed any losses from strike days by the Govt - well I say the Govt I mean you and me as tax payers. The Govt admitted in January that they had already spent more reimbursing the train companies out of the public purse than it would have cost just to settle the unions wage claims in full - I dread to think what that figure is now.
I
selfish twat
No that's the strikers

I didn’t realise that this thread was a three line whip… It’s a debate isn’t it?

They’re using joe public (including our fans) as leverage… And pissing quite a few off in the process
Thank you
I reckon if you offered them.all 100k a year they still wouldn't be happy.
I know its not all about pay far from it but they are losing public support.
Gish some of them get nearly 60k a year and still fucking moan.

Daily Mail is strong in this one.

The majority of rail workers are just above minimum wage. New ones are on 3 year "apprenticeship" contracts (including drivers) that are being paid the legal minimum.

We've got bullshit job managers earning 60/70 grand a year. Where's the outrage in that?

Current starting salary is £25k pa

It’s actually less than that for some, e.g. train drivers employed by Northern Rail.

Fantasy Ireland posted a link in another thread last week.

But as you know, and has been pointed out countless times train drivers aren't represented by the RMT.

@Cricket Blue please report to the Aslef thread, you naughty boy.

So to ask an obvious question why do some staff stay In the industry? If they are that unhappy then why not choose a different industry?
I get some of the frustration and having not had a pay rise myself for 3 years now.
But others are the same, to be a lot of the demands seem unrealistic, where is the compromise from both sides?
