Does anybody else think USA will beat us???

USA are a decent side but England have been fortunate with the draw and will win all 3 games in the group stage.

If you offered me a draw, I would snatch your hand off!! Cannot see us keeping a clean sheet. Gooch hasnt played since october and isnt even fully fit. he should not play-PERIOD!!! We are capable of scoring goals. It should be interesting. Just hope that Bradley isnt too conservative in his tactics...

I have a feeling that the USA are going to do a job on us, US football has improved considerably in the past few years and they have plenty of players who are at good european teams. Also I have to say from what I have seen in recent games I think England are very average and will struggle in the tournament.

What does everybody else think?? Sorry to piss on everyone's chips a few days before it all kicks off!!

I think two teams who are both scared of losing will end up in a dull draw.

Hmmm could be.

With Germany almost certainly awaiting the runners up in this group we can't afford to slip up. A draw against the US would mean we have to win our remaining games. On paper that should be easy but both Slovenia and Algeria will be well up for causing an upset.
A win in our first game takes the pressure off and means we can afford to draw one of our games (even though we should still go for the win!), However my gut feeling (and those of the bookies) is the draw and we will finish the group on seven points.

On paper England should win this comfortably. The US will as usual be full of endeavour and have that "never say die" attitude but they lack real quality players especially in defence where they have the likes of Spector and Onyewe. They do have two players I like in Torres and of course Donavan but thats about it. If we play to our potential I'm expectiong Rooney and Crouch to score a brace a piece with Lamps or Gerrard contributing a goal or two.

who the fuck you worried about? dempsey who can't get in fulhams 1st team or altidore who can't get in hulls? howard isn't a bad keeper but my no means the greatest and the fella who was on loan at everton isn't a bad player but nothing i'm concerned about really. we'll win comfortably imo.

I personally can see a goal fest on both sides here as long as both sides don't sit back on defense the whole match.

Both sides have injured defenders and are generally just OK defensively anyway.

I think the US plays as a team better than the England squad does and that's how they manufacture goals, but England is more talented on an individual level.

Can't really predict this one at all.

And for those of you who are bashing the US team as "twats" and "wanks" grow up and learn a little about US football. It's not the same as it used to be at all. We are a much more organized and skillful squad then we've produced in the past capable of beating SPAIN, which as several have mentioned we're the only ones to have done in the last what is it 40 games now?

Sorry but you are wrong on multiple accounts. One, Dempsey is a staple in the Fulham 1st team, and only gets dropped when he is injured, he had a lengthy injury towards the end of this season. Howard is one of the best keepers in the world, no doubt about it. Yes Jozy struggled to get into Hull's first team, but he is the same player who made Spain's defense look like Swiss Cheese and there we numerous reports he did not get on with Hull's manager. Add to it Donovan proved he could play at the highest level during his loan spell with Everton. As for Crouch, if people think he is a smart start against us, bring it, Onyewu will just muscle him around all match and render him complete ineffective on set pieces.

With all that said, I fully expect this match to end in a draw as both nations realize they are the class of the group and won't want to risk losing the opening match. They will both be conservative and rely on getting 6 points in the remaining to matches to each end at 7 points and both advance. I'm going 1-1 with goals from Dempsey and Rooney.

howard one of the best keepers in the world!!! ha ha do me a fuckin favour. where am i wrong on multiple accounts? i was askin the lad who is worrying him in the USA side?........if dempsey is a staple in the fulham line up then why did hodgson choose to play a half fit zamora in the europa final over a fully fit dempsey?
the england squad is easily better than the USA squad fella and in my opinion we'll win comfortably but we'll see on saturday. although i'm confident you'll finish 2nd in the group as i thought you were fantastic in the confederations cup and certainly gave brazil a game in the final and fair play took apart a decent spain side in the semi final but your squad still doesn't worry me as an england fan.

A post filled with absolute nonsense. One, Dempsey isn't a staple of the Fulham 1st team, or else he would have started in the Europa league final. No doubt about Howard being one of the best in the world? Are you serious? I could name AT LEAST 20 keepers better than Howard just off the top of my head. The reason Altidore couldn't get in Hull's 1st team is because he's shit, end of. If he possessed any quality I'm sure he would've been starting every week for a relegation threatened Hull side. He didn't make Spain's defence look like Swiss cheese whatsoever, he outmuscled Capdevilla on one occasion (Just as Caicedo did a few times for us) and after that did precisely fuck all. If Donovan could play at the highest level he wouldn't have flopped at Bayern. He did nothing spectacular at Everton other than partake in possibly the miss of the season at Spurs. As some of the best CB's in the world struggle to cope with Crouch's ariel threat week in week out, I wouldn't be too confindent in (Newcastle flop) Onyewu's ability to do so.

Long story short, if a team of our calibre can't beat the likes of USA, we don't deserve to be anywhere near the quarter-finals.

Think that's a little harsh mate, Englands record at World Cups is awful when compared against the real top nations like Brazil, Germany and Italy

This is a typical thing I'd expect an England fan to come away with in a world cup year. Absolutely ridiculous. England are a joke football country. What other nation think they have a divine right to win the WC every time it comes around when they have only one it once, 44 years ago, at home!
