The game was at a crucial stage, I would rather players focus on the match than an armband - I'm glad they just gave it the player closest and carried on, Zab did not need to go to the other side of the pitch. It would have been an exercise in vanity
I'm not sure if it showed it on TV, but Yaya gave the armband to Clichy, and he then instantly gave it to Silva. The players must have been told Silva was next in line if Yaya went off.
I think the idea that a captain has to be Terry Butcher screaming with a bloodied bandage on their head, is a bit old fashioned now. Silva leads by example, he's very brave in that he always wants the ball no matter the situation. He's also taken on more of an organising role this season, you regularly see him telling players where to move on the pitch when he's not on the ball.
Kompany is a brilliant captain and I wouldn't want anyone over him to do it. After that we are probably a little bit lacking in natural leaders, but I think Hart, Zabba, Fernandinho and Silva all have football leadership qualities, but in a slightly different way.
