Everytime a dog attacks it's the same old rhetoric, dogs that are not mean't to be around kids or small dogs, dogs used as weapons, unsuitable dogs for urban living,it's time to stop talking and do something.
A little less conversation,a little more action,please.

What action would that be ?

All dogs except working dogs should be put down.

Just because it was a TV star doesn't make it any less dangerous (especially seeing it was the BBC and we now know what those fuckers got up to)
Obviously you and TCIB,aren't big Elvis fans(deceased dog's name),with that Waterloo Blue has left the building.

I see this thread has polarised opinion.

In the red corner you have the practical (These Dogs are dangerous) types.

And in the blue corner we have the (My Devil Dog licks peanut butter of my nuts) types.

Can't we just a have a bit of respect for Elvis please?

This dog business is getting out of hand.

Certain breeds should just be put down or taken away from owners. I'm sick of hearing "boo hoo he wouldn't hurt a fly, please don't take my dog".

There are plenty of safe breeds of dogs to choose from, why people have to choose certain breeds to look tough. Nothing worse that a scrote on the street that hides behinds one of these dogs.

Again collie's are considered "safe" yet the one near my shop is a nasty sod and you can't go near it.A Chow Chow to lives near and is very nasty even though the owners seem a normal family and the breed considered "safe".
I fully agree status dogs should be taken from owners and some may be to nasty to re home.
There are so many though how would you get it done ? because the gov won't foot the bill.

You need tough laws for say breeding without a license and encompass all recognized status dogs under that law.
Some form of certification for the owner ? say have rspca go to every prospective dog owners house and you could see on average 99% of the time a home not suitable for such dogs.
I know similar is done now but the standards need tightening.

For example give house checkers access to criminal database so if the prospective owner pops up for anything they are immediately blacklisted from owning anything more than a chihuahua.

I agree, I think more should be done though..

I am going to get slated but the only way is for the 'dangerous dogs' act should be amended to ban certain breeds completely with no exemption what so ever. Any person in possession of certain breeds and cross breeds will have the dog taken from them. Police should go round and take these dogs away from owners. I know this would be a HUGE operation but sick of reading and hearing stories about dogs killing kids. What's more important human lives or the life of a horrible dog and the loss to their scrote owner.

Before people jump on my back, I really don't mind dogs, I think they are great but there's absolutely no need for people to own certain breeds. If some scrote wants a bit of status why not buy a beagle, perfectly nice dogs who won't eat the face off a child or savage another dog. But then again by burden a beagle with a scrote family.

It's nothing to do with this type of dog or that type of dog, it's about understanding the way a dog views the world it lives in

A dog is a pack animal it views its owner and the immediate family as its pack, if you don't have a pack leader the dog can become stressed etc, this leads to problems, in some it comes out as fear, (which can lead to aggression but not always) in others hyperactivity, causing other dogs to attack it and the worst case dominance then aggression

Basically a dog needs someone to keep it in its place and it will be fine, I have 2 boxers a male and a female, when out if a dog has a go at one of my dogs no matter if that dog is big or small mine will turn and walk away, this is because they are submissive and the reason why they are submissive is because they know who the boss is and where they stand in the pecking order within my home, making them very content

As a previous poster said about the staffie that attacked his dog in his home, the reason for that attack will have been based on the fact the staff will have been stressed because the person responsible was negligent with this dog and does not understand what he wants from her, he gets let out on his own stresses as he has no pack or leader and it comes out in aggression as the poster said as soon as a dominant figure that being himself came into the equation the staff becomes a quivering reck and submissive he has found a pack leader

It isn't about the size or the breed, it's owners who don't understand what a dogs needs are, all dogs no matter what breed and what they have done can be sorted out, if the right person gets a hold off it

Spot on.

Dogs (and kids) love being around a strong, decisive, confident person, it means they can relax and play without fear of shit happening.
If your dog or family doesn't have a recognisable "pack leader", then you need to get one sorted asap.
