Dogs/Puppies

Maybe getting an older dog from a shelter is the best solution, plenty of dogs need a home and any home is better than a shelter. Quite of few of them will be more than happy with that, just make sure you invest plenty of time with it when you are home. Ideally one of your neighbours would walk if for you if they have a dog, once a day while you're out.

Despite what most here are saying, from what I've read 4hours or less is the ideal, 8hours at a maximum if their basic needs are met(food, water and a place to go potty). Otherwise no single person with a job would have a dog and we know that's not the case. If you could afford to look after two smaller dogs, they could keep each other company.

edit: Ah missed the small 1 bedroom apartment bit, they atleast need some space or the chances of them being stressed are too high.

Hello everyone.

I am planning to adopt a puppy now that I have moved to a new place. I used to own a Labrador retriever but that was a decade back. I am looking for suggestions from fellow blues. I work from 8.00 to 5.00 and since I don't have a significant other, the puppy will be staying alone. Do Labradors have problems with that or should I look for a different breed? Also, which breeds are okay with not so big spaces as I live in a 1 bedroom apartment which is fairly small. I must add that currently I work from home but I need to prepare just in case my company wants me to start working from the office.

Any suggestions?

Leaving a puppy - or any age dog - alone in a 1 bedroom flat is just not right mate. If you go for a rescue dog they will interview you and maybe want to view ( not sure with the current pandemic ) your set up and I doubt any of them would sanction you taking one of their dogs.

You could have a cat - plenty of cats are house cats - or as was suggested a budgie or bird of some sort if you want a pet for company.

Get a bearded dragon, they are the ultimate pet for the short of time/attention. Automatic timer on their heat lamp sorts them out for their daily routine, you only feed them once or twice a week, they don't ever drink or piss so there's only a fortnightly shit to clean up and they don't really need their vivarium's cleaning out very often at all.

They'll happily sit there basking and sleeping until you decide you want to let them out, or feed them something fun and then they spring to life. Plus, they are so weird they are just fascinating

Thanks for the replies. It seems its a complete no go for me. Sad.
Well done asking for opinions mate. Enough people would just buy a dog and pay no attention to its needs and wishes. Putting your own wishes aside is a form of greatness. Respect!

Dont do it. You are away too long, they are like a baby except they can walk and fast. Not on to have a pup in your circs mate
