Dogs/Puppies

Yeah I agree. As soon as I had the most important command 'wait' nailed down I had mine off the lead where appropriate like the beach or fields. He stops dead on that command so after that get the recall sorted with treats. There are still the rare times where I have to go and fetch him but he never runs off anywhere. Generally bang on with it now.
Mine is 18 months now and he demands exercise and is busy. He had the chop this time last week, and the change in the dog is incredible already. He has a lovely temperament anyway but he is so much more settled and calmer now
Ours had the snip to calm him down....still trys to shag anything that moves and no difference in his behaviour

If anyone has any good tips on socialisation I'm open to them. Our lad is very fearful and skittish around other dogs. Fine with people whenever they come into the house but isn't too fond in an outdoor setting. We've had him since 12 weeks and in all the time with us he's never had a negative or frightening experience with people or dogs so we are struggling to understand where the fear comes from. The lockdowns have made it hard to encounter situations where we can immerse him. Just want him to have a good time but at the same time don't want to force him into being something he may not be.
Go to Hawkshead for a few days and take mutt with you. Dogs everywhere and an afternoon outside the pub with yours should see him/her settle down eventually. Worked for my bastard Patterdale.

Get a dog carry bag and go for a walk with him. A few days of this and he'll be fine out.

Put him in daycare. Loads of dogs of different ages and sizes.

Hello again blues. I didn’t get a dog last year because of my busy schedule but now I would be able to give significant amount of time if I plan on adopting a dog.
Would it be morally wrong if I get a puppy from a breeder than a rescue? Adopting a puppy from a rescue has always been my first choice but my heart is set on getting a pure labrador. Unfortunately there are none available in any of the rescue shelters.
Thoughts?
Look at guide dogs for the blind website. Really well bred labs and some fail training.

Taken me 4 years to train my Pat to wait when on the lead. Still wouldn't trust him off lead with other dogs around though.
When he senses something untoward his natural instinct sees him go bolt upright and statue like with one front leg off the ground, ready to set off. He's a beautiful sight.

Don't even think of leaving a pup or dog all day. Fucking cruel. If you have a garden and build it a kennel that's different, but don't do it otherwise. It's cruel and causes them anxiety.
