Democracy only works with an intelligent and informed public. The reason MPs are elected is for them to be able to do the research and debates necessary to make big decisions.
Half the idiots that vote on topics have zero real world idea of the pros and cons and consequences of their decisions. I know people that vote Labour and always will as their parents did or they just don’t like Toffs. I know people that vote Tory simply because they like the colour of the party. I know people that voted Brexit because they hate the UK being told how straight its bananas have to be. I also know people that voted Remain because they still want to go on holiday to Spain and thought they wouldn’t be able to.
Just because something is or is not a democratic decision doesn’t elevate it to some sacred level. Hitler was democratically elected. At what point would one need to stop saying “now fellas, we’ve elected him, let’s see how this Poland things works and let him serve his entire term before we judge.”?
Polls suggest Trump would not win a revote and Brexit wouldn’t be happening if we held a second referendum. I doubt there will be a second one but if there was and that 48% increased to 62%, would you then be telling any Brexiteer to suck it up?
