This is a very interesting post. I would add a few items:

1) Hillary Clinton's definition of Trump supporters as "deplorables" was one of the single greatest gaffes in American political history, because she equated hopelessness with being hopeless.

2) No one has ever gotten poor selling either (a) miracle cures or (b) false empathy to the least fortunate. Ever. Trump is a fine example of this (there are many political examples). So is Radiohead.

3) Trump missed an incredible moment -- the one I have called out before -- to create the long-term unification/understanding you call for right after he won. Not that Hillary Clinton would have taken advantage of it -- there was probably even a less likely chance that she would had she won. But he royally fucked up because it's in his fundamental nature is to run victory laps. Had he been able to say "winning in politics is sometimes about division, but succeeding in America once elected is about unification" and acted on it, he could have been Reagan. The fact that he didn't grasp this opportunity underscores that he's as exactly as venal and stupid (and poorly-advised) as I suspected he was.

1 - Agree with this. Admittedly, I also bought into this at times. On reflection, a 'dickhead' thing to have done. I make mistakes also - fortunately not in a way that would affect my chances of being US president. Or in a way that would dictate US policy...
2 - Yes. Though I may have expressed myself badly - in a way all I have been trying to say is that I don't buy in to Trump as a miracle cure. Have tried my own version of this before. It didn't work..

The nutjobs are claiming foreign interference on MSNBC. They've got a reporter talking to trump supporters outside his rally saying they agree people should tone down the rethoric and claim they are the victims at the same time.

There seems to be an ISIS flag on one of the bombs. I don't know if this is fake news or not yet as I've only just seen the picture.

It's also worth pointing out that a ton of major right wing figures including Trump, the FBI Director, the Defence Secretary and one of the Naval Admirals were sent ground beans which ricin is made from about a month ago.

We also had the guy just charged with wanting to suicide bomb a Trump speech.

Let's not pretend that any idea of an explanation that isn't "Trump fans did it" is completely incredible here.

As always with these things, let the authorities do their jobs before jumping to conclusions, let alone declaring any conclusions as insanity.

Agreed. It's an easy trap for someone with my bias to fall into.

I was just reporting the selected vox pops of Trump supporters on MSNBC. They are nursing a semi hoping it's a Trumpet. CNN coverage is surprisingly more measured. Then again Chris Cuomo looks visibly shaken up whilst reporting.
