The problem with that seems to be that the UK is not allowed to make these deals whilst still a member of the EU.
I´m sure a lot will be done via verbal agreements to be implemented after UK leaves but actual trade treaties may be a different thing.
You are correct but it's been ignored by many journalists and others on the leave side. However the verbal agreements you suggest will probably be in place ready to implement early in 2019 provided the EU doesn't have a "shaft the UK" agreement with our future trading partners. Whether Trump is still in place by then is another matter. And as somebody once said "verbal agreements aren't worth the paper they are written on".

Is the converse also true that removing say car manufacture and other employers before brexit happens a no go ?
 
It stinks of nothing other than good sense.

You may wish to cut off your nose to spite your face but luckily the government doesn't.
It usually takes years before a president is invited to have a state visit,invite him over for talks by all means but it's desperate to beg him to come to meet the queen 3 days into his first term and to think people hated blair for slobbering over george bush
