Was watching One of the political you tube channels yesterday. They were all in agreement that whoever the Republicans put up v Biden (Except Trump) would win easily. Also whoever the Democrat’s put up (Except Biden) v Trump would also win easily.

This doest really stand up to any critical thinking / analysis.

On the GOP side, they are a Trump cult. If Trump is not on the ticket whatever series of events that triggers that will send them into free fall and chaos. There is no way a single figure could unite that shitshow.

On the Dem side you have to go back and look at the last primary. Biden's main rivals were equally old. And largely unpopular outside of the party. Biden was the legacy candidate from the Obama years and a safe option. He was by far the best of that bunch at the time. Everyone thinks he's now too old but he is still that safe option and has a great record. If he stood aside the likely winner would be Harris and she's equally unpopular or maybe Newsome who has a record form California which in the minds of swing state shy voters is a liberal hell hole.

So in either case both parties don't have a good path to an alternative. It's going to be those two and the outcome is going to be decided by who can keep their shit together. On the basis the legal walls are closing in on Trump those odds make no sense. But then who puts money down this far out. It's like betting on the winner of next seasons fa cup.

I'm only stating what I watched. But their point was pretty much anyone else would beat either Biden or Trump and the polls showed it.

Buttigieg would be excellent. but as you say a gay candidate in the US maybe on the cards in the future but not now.

Newsom would also be good even though he's had some pretty messed up policies in the past. Newsom tho seems to be gearing up for 2028.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez could be a good bet but her age is against her. apparently you need to be 35 to be president and she hits that 3 weeks before the election....

AOC is 'squad' member which could certainly go against her with floating voters and moderates.
 
I like Buttigeig a lot too but "excellent"? The guy was the mayor of South Bend, Indiana (a town of 100K people who nobody on earth would have heard of were it not for Notre Dame), couldn't win a race for state Treasurer of Indiana, wasn't remotely close to winning in the intra-party vote for DNC Chair, and is Sec of Transportation (not exactly a top cabinet post) -- he hasn't demonstated the bonafides to be President of the USA. His sexuality isn't as a big a problem as his lack of experience is.

Newsom's policies against the homeless -- welp, if you thought he wasn't kind enough, you better steel yourself, because he's on a law-and-order kick now (and in parts of the state that's probably necessary). He's going to get more conservative to offset the California taint, not more liberal. I predict if he's the front runner in 28 a good number of you will be bitching about him next.

Maybe show me the polls to prove otherwise. They even had Haley with a 13 point advantage over Biden and the Maga base can't stand her. Tbh the conversation was how easily beat the pair of them would be.
