I've just had a thought. With my impending visit to Turkey less than four weeks away, am I to experience the pinnacle of kebabs in the home of the kebab?

Anyone whose had one in Turkey, please advise me.

Absolutely shite, I couldn't wait to get home to have a "real" kebab, I went straight to the Saajan for a Tandoori Lamb kebab as soon as I got home.

I had some really nice ones when I went last year, not from the restaurants though. Just from the blokes selling them out of a windows near the markets and shopping areas.

Venus supermarket on anson road,nr birchfields.they have a takeawy at the side.its run by turkish.the kebabs they do are amazin,its 5.50 for a standard kebab but worth it.the bread they use looks like a big hollowed out burger bun.they use proper fillets of meat,well worth a try if your in the area.

I had some really nice ones when I went last year, not from the restaurants though. Just from the blokes selling them out of a windows near the markets and shopping areas.

They are good in Turkey but not the same as they are here, the word has been hijacked here, in Turkey it's more a cooking style (cooked over flames) so you could see things described as a Kebab but are nothing like what you see here. The doner ones you can get everywhere are a lot smaller, we would describe them more as a wrap, I have never seen eh type of pitta bread we have here in Turkey, they do them in Lamb or Chicken, the meat is not ground up like it is here, the kebab we get here is based on the Adana Kebab, which figures as most kebab shops are Kurdish owned rather than Turkish

I don't care and i don't care for one reason. They are all out back. Could be hundreds of tiny people with faces that make them look like they have just had a wank in my chicken and sweetcorn soup all milling around spitting over my chicken dish but I will never see them.

Kebab meat on the other hand is there. Right in front of me. Slowly turning on it's rusty spike covered in Turkish snot and sweat whilst a swarthy illegal looking yeti uses a knife that was cleaned in his armpit to cut slices off something that looks grey and has been there for days.

Mmmmm a fresh keeba, much better than when they scoop it up from those trays,

just tucking into my kebab now, from top pizza on fog lane, and guess what...........im sober
