Dortmund Fans

Haha, I thought that as well (the relief) and wiped my brow thinking Sunderland are coming to town on Saturday and we should at least be able to give their traveling fans a run for their money in the song department (I hope or we truly are in trouble).

simply the best fans I've ever heard or seen. It must be a right buzz at their home games.
I'd put them below both Aris and Poznan.

why?
Aris were a lot louder for more of the match. Poznan brought more people and were more inventive. Still one of the best things I've seen was the wall of death they did. I wanted to be in that.[/quote]

The Udinese fans are singing almost non stop at Anfield at the moment, much more than the Liverpool fans,i wonder if their blogs will be full of their fans slagging off fellow fans for being outsung?

It is a foreign fan thing a section singing non stop.Watching football is a spectator sport, the singing and passion come with it and i enjoy that but non stop all game i am not so sure. I like to chat about what is happening on the pitch as well as singing.

We were probably looking like we weren't enjoying it because we weren't!It was worrying being outfought and outplayed all over the park in the second half and we were fearing the worst. We also might have had a couple of succesful seasons but we have preceeded that with 35 years of misery and failure,so we still fear we are going to cock it all up in the end in the champions league we are living up to that reputation.

The atmosphere concerns are not exclusive to the Dortmund game though. Arsenal fans - yes, Arsenal fans - outsung us in the 1-1 draw recently, and it's these big games that City fans are usually up for and create a great atmosphere. The Arsenal game was one of the worst big match atmospheres in recent history. The Villa game, well say no more... "Is this a library?" - has that ever been sung at us before?

To the Dortmund fans I would say take a bit of time to find out what has gone on and what is going on in the future at City.
Its not just about buying players, there is a multi million pound development
going on across the road from the stadium.
This includes 13 pitches, a 7000 seater stadium for our other teams.
We are building a school for our young players which will also be used by the local kids, a leisure and community centre.
We will provide hundreds of jobs and are playing a major part in the regenaration
of what was a run down deprived area of Manchester.
So before you slag our money off have a look at what we are doing with it.

you're talking to wind mate.

Other than the noise they made, what I was impressed with was number who travelled by coach.

I travel long distances each season following City by car, and travelled back down the M6 after the game last night, and there were at least 10 coaches heading back to Dortmund straight after the game. I've no idea if they arrived just for the game or not, but if they did, that is a journey of around 15 hours each way, I doubt we'll have 10+ coaches going the other way, even if they are staying over, I know I'll be going to Dortmund by car, but we're planning 2 nights there. For so many, about 20-30% of their support last night, to do it by coach is impressive.

The other thing I will add is there a few Dortmund fans around us last night, and they behaved impeccably, even standing and applauding our equaliser.

The busses left Dortmund on Tuesday at 8.p.m. or 10.p.m. and arrived at 1p.m. on Wednesday. We lft Machester after the match, I was in dortmund at 2 p.m. on Thursday, my kollege in another coach at 3:30p.m.

I was in the Schalke end for the City match and the City support outsang the Schalke fans same against Hamburg.

Similarly I went to the first champos lge game of Udinese they were outsang by the Panathanaikos fans. People behave differently away from home. I dont know why but they do. Plus as you point out as a fan set we generalloy fear the worse.

Thank you for an unforgettable evening in your wonderful stadium.
Two teams - very offensive - many chances for goals on both sides and two goalkeepers on world-class-level made it an impressive match.
I think the draw is okay, even it's a pitty for us Dortmund-fans to get the 1-1 minutes before the end of the match.

It was great and I hope to see some of you on december, 4th. in Dortmund.

By the way, the - as some of you called it - choreographie of singing and dancing is not the contrary for the enthusiasm for the match.
We can do both!

I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. To be fair, we were very lucky to get a draw out of the game - Dortmund were so much the better team and we'll need to improve a lot to have a chance of qualifying for the next round. I'll be in Dortmund on 4th December for the return fixture and I'm hoping we still have a chance to qualify. If not, then I'm sure we'll still have a good time anyway.

If you like, give me the number of your cell-phone or an e-mail-adress and I'll show you the "Dortmund touristic highlights"!!!

Out of interest, how much did your coach journey cost you?

CL games are a bit different though, many regulars missing, plus those not on the cup scheme missing their window to claim their normal set and ending up in non singing sections. Then there the no beer nonsense, Saying that guess I'm just trying to make myself feel better.
Saturday lunchtime kick off, mmmmmmmm, maybe a little subdued all round.
