Drinking on your own in a pub

The top of hillgate basically on the bramhall lane/A6 junction. Always used to be a good pint in there, the church is also good.

Never thought I'd see the day when 'The Blossoms' got a recommend for anything other than their curly ham sandwiches.
It's a good pint in there, popped in the church this afternoon with my daughter and the dog, beer was very good:)

Tbh mate it could sell the amber nectar of the gods, I still wouldn't go in, again, awful place,

Spoons in the morning is a depressing place, missed my 6am train earlier in the year, next one was 7.30 so went into the spoons next door to wait. Seeing blokes queing up for a pint at that time was depressing.

Why?
They could be on nights and just put a shift in.
When Manchester had a fish market, the local pubs used to open at all hours round Shudehill.
There are a lot of things in this world that truly are depressing, but some bloke queuing up for a pint isn't really one of them.

Nij giving people the benefit of the doubt yet again! I'm 99% sure these men don't have jobs at all. They're alcoholics plain and simple with their benefits ensuring the drink keeps flowing. It's the same faces again and again and again.

My personal preference would be for Spoons not to serve alcohol until Midday to let us breakfast and coffee types consume in peace.

Yes I do give folk the benefit of the doubt when I have fuck all knowledge of their personal circumstances as most fair-minded folk do.
I leave simplistic and probably erroneous conclusions to judgemental bores like you.
Wetherspoons is a fucking pub that sells beer.
If you want a coffee then go to a fucking coffee shop instead, and stop looking down your nose at others, because you just come across as an arrogant snob.

I know you're a pretty liberal kind of guy NF, but I thought even you would struggle to defend the locals of Wetherspoons ;-)

Anyway, Mrs wants to know what went on in the one at the Grove recently, she was told a few pubs ended up shutting their doors (although the latter may just be chinese whispers etc) ?
You should try the one in Kirkby-in Ashfield, Harry. The town is that rough that I believe Wetherspoon's are contemplating closing it. They don't like "strangers" round there. You posh South Manchester boys don't know you're born :-)

I just can't be doing with pompous bores who look down on others, mate.
The Spoons in the Grove has had 'issues' with drug dealing, feuding gangs from Offerton, and the ejection of some travelling folk who didn't take kindly to their removal, so it could have been any one of those reasons.
I have never seen any trouble in there myself, other than the odd coke deal, but you get that in any pub, and I usually just sit and read my Racing Post in peace.

Where are these Wetherspoons that are serving alcohol at 7am?

I don't know any that start serving before 9.

Although it seems they are that full of respectable people who wouldn't normally be seen dead mixing with the scroungers and alcoholics, I'm surprised they can even get to the bar for their first couple of pints.

Alcohol abuse destroys lives so having a genuine concern for someone's wellbeing doesn't quite make me the arrogant snob you're indicating I am. Wetherspoons actually makes more money on food than drink so I don't think my preference is unreasonable.

I know a few old people that prefer to go out drinking early in the morning because they don't like it when it gets busy in the evening. As NF said, I use to finish the night shift and go for a few beers to help me unwind, I couldn't finish a 12 hour shift then jump into bed and go straight to sleep just because its 6am.

I know alcohol abuse destroys lives, but your post was making generalisations about 99% of the clientele that you can't substantiate, because you don't know whether or not they are on benefits, or night shifts, or simply retired, and they have as much right to a pint as you or I.
If folk want to get inebriated at 7 in the morning then they can go to a 24 hour supermarket and buy a bottle of vodka for £8.
And cheap supermarket booze is a far bigger risk to public health than a pub, in my opinion.
There is an argument to be made that alcohol is far too cheap and readily available to discourage problem drinkers, but I don't think that blanket slating of the Wetherspoon's regulars as you did makes it particularly well.
