Drogba

That remains to be seen. I really hope so he wasnt really last season although didnt get much of a chance. Its more that he is 28 on a 5 year deal.

Would Masc from Liverpool for £30 million at 24 - 25 have been a better option ? I think so.

Does it mean De Jong is going to be sold (24) If that does happen it wont have been a good bit of business.

Providing DeJong stays and we are not robbing Peter to Pay Paul I am happy with the yaya deal. I am very very happy with the Silva and Botang deals though.

Exactly. We have signed older players that were world class 1 or 2 seasons ago (The Toure brothers for example)

Totally agree. At 27 years of age Yaya has no place left in the game and at 24 and 21 Silva and Boatengs best days are long behind them

Wouldnt touch him, going to be 34 soon. Has also only scored 20 goals or more twice in his 6 years in the premier league.

A theory:
Man City have now publicly made inquires about purchasing Drogba as a little slap in the face of Chelsea, telling them to back out of the Torres deal... or else.

it's either a smokescreen or some kind of message to Chelsea about Torres.
I know that Chelsea are expecting Drogba to go to Real Madrid this summer so maybe this is part of the PR campaign to either prepare the Chelsea fans for his departure or even a "come and get me" message from Drogba.

He's 27 and has a lot more to his game than Mascherano who his only one year younger.

Every now and again we acquire a teenager, e.g. Nils Zander. Where are we with his development? The think that most upsets me about our transfer activity is the concentration on players that have peaked in the career. Drogba is a supreme example.

To sign Drogba at this stage would be really really stupid. If we are lucky he would have one decent season. Always had bad injury problems one more bad one and thats the end of him at his age.

With all the upheaval we are very unlikely to win the league next season, why not sign young players like Chelsea did opriginally that would see us dominating and winning things for 4 or 5 season ?

Wish we at least tried to do things properly and build a proper side of hungry young talented players that at least want to acheive something. You sign 27 - 28 year old + players that have already won everything how motivated are they going to be ?

We have sorted of proven already throwing unlimited cash at the problem with no thought and planning (Hughes) simply doesnt work.

some good comments there especially re building for the future, but disagree re Yaya (I hope I am right cos I think he is class); regarding Drogba it is almost certainly not true - 1 rumour from 1 site/paper so we should not be getting too sexed up about it in my opinion.

-- Fri Jul 09, 2010 9:54 am --

personally from what I have seen I prefer Yaya to Mascherano, and I think Yaya and NDJ will be the anchor of Bobby's first choice midfield, with more width from fullbacks and attacking support to Tevez/Ade/whoever from Silva, probably with Milner in the midfield too
