Drogba

Hes going on 33. Yes he world class and might even have 1 decent last season but at that sort of age you are very much on the cusp of being finished as a top player.

It could happen any time now look at Henry. Would be a shocking signing. We would be paying the £20 million fee and £20 million in wages on a 3 year deal for basically one decent season out of him if we were lucky. Would be a shocking transfer for us if its true (which I doubt).

I remember Ferguson stating that the Rags would not sign a player over the age of 27 approx three years ago. Sensible policy and one that Wenger believes in too.

If City signed Drogba it would be a demonstration that we would do anything to get a CL place. Drogba, like Torres peaked a couple of years ago. He'll be 33 soon ffs.

Michael Owen

Michael Owen was different. Free & therefore no risk. He is now being moved on. Think more of Chris Smalling and Javier Hernandez 20 and 21repectively.

Every now and again we acquire a teenager, e.g. Nils Zander. Where are we with his development? The think that most upsets me about our transfer activity is the concentration on players that have peaked in the career. Drogba is a supreme example.

His 100+ k wages weren't a risk ?

i think the reservation with older players is that they lose their pace for the PL - but drogba still has it. His hold up play is exceptional too and he will never lose that.

I think i would take the gamble on him for £15m, but would prefer Torres.

Exactly. We have signed older players that were world class 1 or 2 seasons ago (The Toure brothers for example)

To sign Drogba at this stage would be really really stupid. If we are lucky he would have one decent season. Always had bad injury problems one more bad one and thats the end of him at his age.

With all the upheaval we are very unlikely to win the league next season, why not sign young players like Chelsea did opriginally that would see us dominating and winning things for 4 or 5 season ?

Wish we at least tried to do things properly and build a proper side of hungry young talented players that at least want to acheive something. You sign 27 - 28 year old + players that have already won everything how motivated are they going to be ?

We have sorted of proven already throwing unlimited cash at the problem with no thought and planning (Hughes) simply doesnt work.

No chance he would have time to settle, So if his first season is shit, he'll then be going on 34, this deal just isn't going to happen.

And I don't believe he's even on City radar, it may just be a smokescreen or just more media bullshit.
