You MUST visit Kilmainham Gaol. Fantastic tour. The best pub, and oldest, The Brazen Head. Forget Temple

I was working at Heuston station a few years back and hardly bothered with Temple Bar. Spent most nights in Ryan's, Nancy Hands or Brazen Head. All good boozers with decent food. Live music in Brazen Head most nights.

Did anyone have a problem. Sorry!

Well said Fetlocks. I have always found the Irish so friendly. A few years back a few of us had just got the Dart from the port to the city and were studying a map looking for our hotel. I kid you not three separate people came up asking us if we needed help/directions within a few minutes. I now take the trouble to do the same in town though if they're looking for Old Trafford it's anyone's guess where they'll end up!!

When deciding how much money to take to Dub think of a number, times by 3 then add a zero.

I guarantee you will still be short at the end. Never thought me,the missus, her son and his girlfriend would end up sharing a single burger on the last night.

Expensive unless you're in the shithole north of the river and full of people who hate the English - what's not to like about Dublin?

I think you might have just banned yourself from the bluemoon Cheltenham champion tipser competition, nothing wrong with Clontarf or Malahide.

Never thought Clontarf would be mentioned on the Bluemoon forum!!! Mental...

Been loads of times over the years and never had a bad time yet. Always made welcome, as others have said bit expensive.

I always start of in Madigans just off O'Connell Street then just take a walk - Temple Bar bit of tourist trap but I have found most pubs are good.

Like any city keep wits about you especially in evening

Have a good un

Only seen this thread if you like your football drink around temple bar plenty of games although more expensive as it's the tourist spot. But it's safe enough.

Dublin is more expensive than UK about twenty percent more.

The guiness factory museum is good. Wear a coat though it's always freezing.

In terms of shopping same as UK bar Clearys and Arnotts Grafton street is the main drag.

All the museums are free including the art gallery, history museum and the natural history museum hour and half in each. They are all around Stephens green. The little museum of Dublin is not free its six euros to get in but is worth a visit again it's near Stephens green.

Salamanca is ok for a meal 50 quid 3 courses and a bottle of wine it's also just next to the tourist guide building which is a church.

Wax museum is crap avoid.

Enjoy your stay.

If you are interested in the history side of things over there, we had a cab driver give us a quick run round the place too pointing out all the sites, the bullet holes in the GPO, the various, comically named statues etc for 8 EUR - probably charge you 50 now though :))

Been about 6 times (to see a miserable Manc in concert) and always had a great time. The poster saying the English are hated could not be further from the truth - very friendly people indeed.

Avoid Temple bar like the plague - apart from the previously mentioned Porterhouse.
My favourite pub is Mess'rs Maguire's as you cross over to the south on O' Connell Street bridge it is there on your left. All the beers are made on site - including my favourite Irish red ale (never had a Guinness in my life).

Been about 6 or 7 times now and never had a bad time. I head over the river and as far away from Temple Bar as possible and always manage to find loads of proper old pubs with real characters in. Also had the best Indian meal I've ever had there last year, a dingy little vegetarian café place called Delhi O'Deli. Favourite pub last time I went was called The Confession Box, about €4 a pint of Guinness.
