Dullest Football Since Pearce?

Not read all this thread and the others.

Assume the rose tinted spectacle brigade are clinging on to the 'no preseason' bollocks to explain our dismal performances.

Having lost the other two excuses of 'loads of injuries' and 'new players bedding in' the straw clutching must be pretty impressive. Off to the happy clapper thread to check on the sanity of the deluded fuckers on there!

I have to ask, do you not think it's even a tiny bit odd that every single top team around Europe is suddenly worse this season?

Of all the teams in the CL last 16, not one is a current league leader. That group of teams includes PSG, Bayern, Juventus, and the mighty Liverpool.

Lille are top of Ligue 1. Tottenham are top of the PL. Milan (who haven't been good in a LONG time) are top of Serie A. Leverkusen are top of Bundesliga. Sporting CP (who haven't won a league since 2001/02) are top of the Portuguese league. Real Sociedad are top of La Liga.

Do you not think, maybe it's not a coincidence?
 
It would help if we actually ran at the opposition instead we're 'treated' to little flicks X 3 at the end of moves each one of which has less than a 50% chance of success, an aimless long ball from the pivot, an aimless high cross when we have no height and worst of all umbrella football...stop passing it round in a semi circle for 5 mins....and actually run with the ball, I know we get fuck all from refs but put a little panic into a defence...I swear watching teams against us is like watching table football, lines of players shuffling from side to side while we pass it slowly and poorly these days between our back six outfield players!!!!

Other issues are poor quality passes, the need to have 3/4 touches, whatever happened to one touch passing. It's as though they're all strangers.

Ball control...awful, Sterling again last night couldn't control a bag of cement. He's not the only one but I watched him do an imitation of a wall & almost fall over the ball a couple of times.

Dead balls... throw-ins & corners. No point in wasting time taking them.

All in all it makes you wonder what we do in training and what the fuck us going on internally. The general quality of the squad has definitely deminished but the unelected best manager in the world surely should be getting a tune of some sort out of them even with injuries.

Watching him act like a dick with Alty does him no favours either, imagine the reaction on here if it was Klopp or #SOO acting like that.

Currently embarrassed by Pep. 198 points, the best football I've seen seems a long time ago now...we've regressed to Pellers last season & even Pearce/Clueless standards.

Chances are I'm going to get... remember where we were (yes I was there...every fucking where following up & down the country) and you can't be calling out Pep from happy clappers (well I can and have done).

Do I feel better for doing this post? No I feel even more annoyed, frustrated & pissed off.

Yeah, but we’ve been in decline for 18 months. I wasn’t even expecting a title race this year, more a refresh and consolidation, but we’re at risk of not even getting top 4.

Take out the Burnley result and we’re averaging a goal a game. That’s dire.

Last season was anomalous due to us only having 1 functional CB. And he spent 2/3 of the season injured. There's enough evidence to suggest our CB situation influenced far more than people give it credit for. There were still a tonne of games though where we played great, it's just on a good handful of games our leaky defence put us on the back foot too often.

This season we are definitely worse. No denying that. But so is everyone else who previously was good. There might be problems that run deeper, but it's blatantly obvious that this season has been impacted by COVID and the lack of preseason and it seems to be that the most attacking and pressing of teams that have dropped below their previous level the most. Us included.

I'm not pretending had this fiasco not happened we'd be back to our best. But I can say with confidence we'd be significantly better than we are now.

It needs a major shift in both personnel and game style its just a question of whether Pep is the right man to oversee it.

With the right squad adjustments things can improve quickly we have seen it before but this season looks like being our worst under Pep and he lacks the ability or will now to change things for the better.

I mean fair enough, but once again what we're seeing this season isn't reflective of the true quality of our team, as evidenced by several top teams throughout Europe struggling for top form and experiencing relative ruts just like us.

The game was summed up for me when Rodri fell on his arse from a stationary position near the half way line. Looked like he had been shot by a sniper.

There is no intent, no movement, no pace and a woeful inability to finish. I have written this season off already.

Top 4, I`ve been wondering if well make the top 6.

I wish I could say I`m joking.
 
If this is a season where he is risking average league form for a good pop at the champions league, well that may be his remit from above to secure that title.

But for me, I ain't arsed abput winning a trophy, they are always a bonus to a season, what I want is to be entertained.

Sadly I am not being atm.
 
A shadow of our former selves, it's sad just how far we've fallen.
Poor recruitment, lack of confidence, strange tactics, players completely out of form, the list goes on.
It's not a quick fix either, we'll be back at some point but i haven't got a clue how long that is going to take or whether it'll even be Pep getting us back there.
 
like i said in the post match thread. their is 4 players defending nobody because teams park the bus and have 10 men behind the ball ? at home to WBA why on earth do you fear losing and over respect them and play Rodri and Gündogan

pep fears pushing the players because of the warning signs and injury. but to wrap them up in cotton wool for to long will mean the season will be over in a couple of weeks ? champions league is number one and you can see the different in premier league setup to champions league setup

the title race is not over after last night bad result. but its getting close to being over ? uefa will never let manchester city win the champions league and winning the league cup or FA cup looks the best option right now

My thoughts too, opposition playing 6-3-1, we better get used to it, home and away.
 
I dont think it's just a City problem, since the restart without fans some teams have become very boring. No fan pressure from the stands the team isnt try to please match paying fans. The premier league is fucking boring.
Was chatting to my two spurs mates yes they are happy to be near the top of the league but both said they wouldnt pay 70 odd quid to go, it's boring !!. Both matching going fans until lockdown.

I have watch I guess about half of Citys games this season and can only remember the spurs game ( for all the wrong reasons ! ).
I cant remember the last time I watched an exciting game, just cant remember, properly a champions league a few seasons ago when we drew 6-6 and went out on away goals.

Every team plays with 11 behind the ball against City.
City fans moan about City not replacing our top players like Kompany, Zab, Yaya, Merlin etc. Yet teams are even more defensive against now even though we arent as good.

I think football in general is now so shit as it's not accountable to match going fans. Teams can play absolutely shit defensive anti football because no fans are going to get on the teams back. The tv companys are going to defend their jobs by bigging up the defensive shit as a great display by that team.

Just look at the players I have never seen so many smiles between teams in matches before !

For City it must be hard to motivate yourself to play when you know it's the same old same old. Another attack against defence match. Yes they are highly paid professional but they are still human. If I as a fan find it boring I bet they do to.

I cant really see myself going back as a,match going fan. Will I pay 70quid plus and lost most of my week end to watch the shit the premier league teams are dishing up ? I can't really see myself watch any more games this season on tv ( get Messi I will lol )
Perhaps at 60 years old it's an age thing that I just dont enjoy modern football anymore.

But one is for sure football without fans is fucking shit.
