This is a prime example of what happens when you give a blank cheque book to an idiot.

TWENTY FOUR MILLION POUNDS for Lescott and we sell Dunne for £6 million. It's madness!

However you dress it up, and there's been far too much spin at this club recently, this is very, very, very poor business.

The 'transfer strategy' is a load of shite. It's just Hughes buying who is available and paying absolutely stupid money to get players who aren't. The Lescott and RSC deals must be close to Steve Daley standard and Toure and Abedeyour are not far off.

In footballing terms, there is no way should Richard Dunne should have been 'replaced by Lescott and when you look at the money involved, it's just, well, fucking ridiculous frankly.

talk about a load of shite !,what a load of tosh you type and its funny how nobody agrees with you.Its Dunnys time to go, been good for us but to accident prone.Like many i am over the moon with the way our club is being run,it used to be run like a corner shop now everything is absolutly tip top just how a multi million £ company should be run.Now get back under your stone.

TBH I didn't really want him to go but, there's no way we'd've got as much for Billy G, Kolo hadn't been the same since returning from ACN and the Gallas/Vermaelen partnerhip seems more solid than Kolo/Gallas ever was.

But you've got one lionhearted defender in Ol' King Kolo.
Vermaelen does look good

He does but early days. Not convinced Arsenal have the strengh in depth.

Yes. I think I'll crawl back into the woodwork I came out of 40 years ago as well. Naughty buggers wanting to be successful. It's just not City what is everyone thinking of!

Er....?

This is irony, isn't it? Or is it a prime example of what happens when you give a keyboard and internet access to....?

Lescott isn't "worth" £22m, but that's hardly news to anyone! But, he's the best English, left-sided CB, that fits the excellent "transfer strategy" in the PL (better than Terry IMHO) so, given the funds we have available, we went and got him, eventually. Richard Dunne on the other hand, has been a great servant of the club but is NOT good enough to get us where we're going, and £6m is a good price...

To compare our recruits from Arsenal to Steve Daley, who came from Wolves, is ridiculous in every conceivable way! Need I go into the reasons?

The writing's been on the wall for him since last season and, as I've said on here before, as club captain he deserved more than being left on the bench or in the reserves, but that's what would've happened if he'd stayed. Now we can appoint a new captain and concentrate on the future... As can Dunne who's getting one last big contract, which again he wasn't going to get at City!

I say thanks Dunnie and good luck mate, Villa is as good as he could've done and I hope he does well for them.

Onwards and Upwards!

The comparison wih Daley stands in terms of paying far more for a player than he is worth. As you say, everybody knows that Lescott isn't worth that fee.
Dunne had 3 years left on his current contract and wanted to stay at City. Martin O'Neil is no fool and Villa were certainly not the only prenier league club interested in him. Compare that to the queue for Santa Cruz, or for that matter Lescott.

Getting double the money back on a player who has given us 9 long years and will only have a few years left in him?

What is Hughes thinking?!?!?! The horror! If theres ever a sucker for a transfer its (unfortunately as I rate him highly as a manager) Martin O'Neil.

Still, he should get his testimonial, loyalty is hard to come by and in the past few years since we came back into the PL he's been there keeping "the best" in his back pocket like the old Asda advertisements.

Comparing Steve Daley with Emanuel Adebayor DOES'NT stand! Adebayor is many times the player Daley was....and you know it! I can see the point you were trying to make but you undermined your argument by using a sloppy comparison. Hughes has said that he has brought in 3 years worth of transfers in 12 months as he was given the green light by ADUG to spend now. They are business people and have realised that the sooner we can break into the Champions League the sooner our brand can go wider globally and the sooner they get some money back on their investment. If we finish top 4 this season (and it's a big 'IF' but not impossible) £22 million or whatever we have spent on Lescott will be clawed back in tv money, shirt sales, advertising etc. and will be money well spent. Dunney is not good enough for a top four team IMHO but to get £6 million for him is a good deal. My head says sell but my heart says keep him. That's why I earn peanuts and ADUG made billions selling bank shares recently! And if Wenger is right about a European super league the Arabs are spot on about shifting our arses into the ECL sooner rather than later.

Fraid I dont agree with any of this.

24 Million for Lescott is alot to say the least, but thats how its going to be with whoever we sign. Clubs know we have money, and they'll always rip us off. If we tried to sign Corradi back, he would probably be over 20 million. Is Dunne, a bloke who was generally poor last season, reaching his thirties, and is notorious for netting own goals, and picking up red cards, worth more than 6 million? I don't think....

Our transfer strategy.... Who would you rather we were getting? Has beens like Raul, Cannavaro and Beckham? How about blokes who have never played in the League, and may not adapt or take 3 months to? If you think we can get players like Messi or Iniesta, then I don't think your on this planet.
