Dzeko (Merged)

Re: Dzeko

Probably said a few times already in this thread; but if we could just play Dzeko as he should be played, things will be fine.
He is an amazing talent, seems like a really decent guy and I am sure he will be the most celebrated striker in the league eventually.

Just give him something proper to work with for god's sake!

Re: Dzeko

Prior to his decent couple of seasons in Germany, the lad had obtained the nickname 'lamp post'.

During his time with us he has not shown me anything to suggest he should be a professional footballer let alone a £27m goal machine.

Slow, shit first touch, no awareness, shit at passing I could go on. Just stick him on the list as another waste of money along with Kolorov, Boateng, Jo, RSC, Balotelli.

It's blatently obvious he doesn't fit our system so why Mancini brought him in I do not know.

Re: Dzeko

I watched the game again this morning and I dont see a single reason to criticize his touch. The biggest issue here is that he fails to
1st half
He had a single bad touch, when he slipped before getting a pass to Yaya, and had couple of lost balls, 2 on 1:1, and some bad passes, but Milner had like a double more. Not to mention that he had good movement on 1st half, and won many balls. Most important thing is that he had 2 players on his back most of the time, and still fought to create something. For me, deserved 6.0
2nd half
Lost, like all other players...Zero service and zero contribution.Had that one header, almost a goal. 5.0
Once again same old story... Average, as well as Milner, Yaya, Barry and Richards
Silva and De Jong- somewhat better then them
CB-s exellent once again
Kolarov flop of the match

I was excited when we signed Dzeko because he was just awesome in Germany, when I watched the games he was the ultimate big man upfront. When we signed him I thought that's it, AJ, Kolarov, Milner and SWP will be bombing balls into the box. For some reason Mancini is trying to make him drift out and come deep, why. This isn't Dzeko's game. It's bullshit. He's possibly the best target man in the game and we're making him come to the halfway line and drifting him out wide. Let him play his game ffs Mancini.

From the pages i've read only you and bluemoon115 have any idea how Dzeko is best utilised. Dzeko is sheer quality and the sooner Bobby realises we need wingers to accommodate him the better. He is not an intricate pass and move striker he is a goal poacher/target man

Re: Dzeko

Few points that need to be made:

1) Previous post by Zmajuga: spot on. Right now expectations around Edin (due to the amount of money paid for him) are severely affecting his play. He is trying to do too much rather than being instinctive. His fear of not meeting expectations affected his confidence, and his play overall. Ironically enough - I think he will start to shine once everyone marks him as a 'bust' :-) as expectations will be down, and pressure will be down.

2) 'change in team's style of play' = overrated on this thread. It's really not as hard as you're making it out to be. Put in some wingers and it comes natural after few training sessions, and same goes for formation shift - these are professional players ffs.

3) Dzeko cannot create for himself = rubbish. Please watch some of his career goals again - the kid can create for himself, his problem is number 1) above.

I feel bad for the lad because it must be hard to come in to the Prem with SUCH HIGH EXPECTATIONS and HIGH PRESSURE right off the bat...that must suck. If City bought him over the summer he'd be kicking ass and taking names by now. You'll see next season.

I'll be there to say 'I told you so'.

Re: Dzeko

He needs a run of games. Until he gets that, forget seeing his best form. It really is quite simple. A bit of service wouldn't go a miss either.

I feel genuinely sorry for the guy.

It is obvious that Dzeko is a player who will thrive on balls into the box yet we play without wingers. He is a quality player whose assets are being completed negated by our style of play. To get the best out of him we are going to have to play 4-4-2 with two genuine wingers who can put decent crosses into the box. This means forgetting about trying to convert the likes of Richards and Kolarov into wingers. It means forgetting about playing the likes of AJ on the right where his natural tendency is to cut inside. It means forgetting about playing 2 defensive midfielders every game no matter who we are playing, especially at home!

Lets judge Dzeko when he is actually given a fair crack of the whip! If we started smashing long balls up to Tevez people on here would knock the style of play and not Carlos. Dzeko should be afforded the same courtesy![/quote]

This!

Re: Dzeko

Truthfully, I was impressed by Dzeko. I want to start by talking about him tracking back. He came back a few times and won the ball in midfield which left no one up top, but if Tevez was on the field it would have made for some good counter attacking. He also did a good job of winning headers off of goal kicks/punts which was good. I think Dzeko's biggest problem right now is Mancini. If he doesn't start getting more consistent time then he will never get his form. I think it is time we run him and Tevez up front together and let them get used to playing together. There is no doubt that Balo is a great talent but it's no secret he is the only thing holding himself back.
