Re: Dzeko
I've been a regular visitor of this forum since Dzeko joined the club, I wanted to see what MC fans would think of Edin and so far... well I guess that most of you still need to be convinced of his class.
I've been following his career for about 8 years now. First it was the junior games that I watched live here in Sarajevo (I was told about his talent by his teammate, who happens to be my wife's cousin), then his first team appearances for FK Zeljeznicar (also live), onto Teplice, Wolfsburg and now City. He's been a huge talent who, fortunately, turned into one of the best strikers in the world. And you should be very happy to have one such TEAM player in your club.
I emphasized the word team, because that's what he primarily is - a team player. Honestly, I wasn't watching City that much before Dzeko arrived but I've seen all games since he did. All the PL games, both FA cup matches and the game in UEFA Euro league vs. Aris. City is still not a functioning team. You have a lot of world class players who are not at their best. Yet. I personally think that you should replace Mancini as the manager because he had similar problems back at Inter and could never solve them. I remember last year when Hughes (who is also not a manager that could deal with City) was replaced by Mancini, I thought "what the hell, why Mancini when there are literally dozens of better managers who could do this job a lot, lot better". Yes, I know what Mancini managed to win with Inter, but that's a whole other story (calciopoli and all that...). A strong manager means a lot, and if you look at United - City has better players, but Utd has Ferguson who boosts the entire team to play at 200% of their actual skill level.
Back to Dzeko. To fully use his skill, City needs to start playing as a team. He's far from his top form, but watching Silva, Kolarov, Yaya Toure etc... I realized that nearly half of the team is not playing at their optimal level. I watched all those players a lot in their previous team and trust me - they are world class players. Right now, judging by the names of the players that play for City, your team deserves to be on top of the league. The team just needs to change the play style a bit, and by this I don't mean adjust the play for Dzeko, but adjust it for the world class level that should be played at City. I've noticed a lot of unnecessary ball possession by a lot of players. Holding the ball for 10+ seconds is not something that should be happening at the top level. And if you look at Edin Dzeko, he doesn't hold the ball for long. Rewind the last 8 matches and find a moment when he's been holding the ball for more than 5 seconds or had 3 touches before passing it.
Dzeko, if given time and patience, will turn to be a legend of the club. Don't question his skill, I assure you that he has it. He's still adjusting to Premier League (personally, I think it's the most demanding league in the world, mostly physically), and once that period is over - sit back, enjoy and cheer at his goals.
All the best to Manchester City and its fans!
P.S. Watching City matches I noticed Micah Richards. The guy rocks! ;)
