Surely the one time you sell a player to your rival is to stop them signing a better playet that you can get yourselves?

City with Cavani is better than Chelsea with Dzeko. But Chelsea with Cavani would be a very real threat.

If that did actually happen, I don't think the difference next season would be anywhere near as big as some make out. Would expect Dzeko as the main man at Chelsea to score as many as Cavani for us, certainly within 3/4 goals. Dzeko with consistency and confidence is a bloody beast.
If Chelsea get Cavani then i believe we will go all out for Bale and keep Tevez, Aguero and Dzeko. They are three top strikers and there aren't any better strikers available IMO, so we would be better off getting Bale who has pace and can play left, right and center.

Tactically I think Bale might find it a much greater challenge to play in a team where all his team mates don't just fade into invisibility while he tries whatever he fancies.

Re: Dzeko to Chelsea

Transfer odds tend to go the way of media reports, so I'm not surprised given the speculation of the last few days. Doubt it would actually happen though.

Do we really think Chelsea is going to buy our 3rd best striker off of us to in turn give us free run at one of the best strikers on the planet atm? Doubt it.

I think Bale is about as nailed on for Madrid as hypothetical mega transfers can be. If we miss out on Cavani we'll keep Dzeko (if he'd be happy to stay, maybe not as we're touting him around Europe) and reassess next year IMO. Which would be no bad thing with Aguero and the other attackers we're bringing in like Navas and Isco. Thiago and Fernandinho are the only two signings I think we now *have* to make.

Would it fuck! Who knows what Pellegrini might be able to get out of Edin?

That's the point! Wolfsburg played with 2 natural wingers and Dzeko scored tons of goals there. Lets be patient with him , give him one more season under pelle and see how it goes.

I know what your point was mate and I agree, or I'm at least open to the idea (not sure what the full plan is with the strikers yet)

New manager with new style, Keep Dzeko and see how it pans out..

Re: Dzeko to Chelsea

When I watched Dzeko at Wolfsburg, he had two full-backs and a playmaker (Misimovic), much like here. Who were these two wingers and what season was this in?

Re: Dzeko to Chelsea

You don't sell players to your rivals whether or not you think they are good or bad, If they want him they a have seen something they like and that could come back to bite you. Just look at Arsenal, sold off their best players and it nearly cost them a top 4 place and has put them further down the pecking order in the league.

Re: Dzeko to Chelsea

I personally think Chelsea need a target man to lead their strike force. Dzeko would that job very well for them. He could easily be the man to bring in a supporting striker such as Lukaku, or Ba. I don't know if Torres will stay at Chelsea, he's another Shevchenko, was a good player but he's now very much on the way down.

If we could keep Dzeko and Aguero and bring in Cavani, then I'd be happy to sell Tevez. I know he works hard on the pitch, but he is a bit too selfish and doesn't always play with those alongside him. Tevez is also at the end of his contract and this is the last transfer when decent money can be had for him.

I'd rather Chelsea were looking to take Tevez from us but I can't see him fitting in there, it would be even better if Rooney went to Chelsea, because he could play as a target man for them and he scores goals, and can help play his team mates in. (For us it would be a great move because it weakens Utd and Rooney does have some faults, such as his wayward passing, etc.

Arsenal didn't adequately replace those players though. We'd be upgrading. I wouldn't mind if we sold Kolarov to United to get Alba in.
