Early Retirement

Think I'll probably "retire" at 40, buy somewhere nice in the Far East and run a bar/eatery or something.

Just a bit of an update for anyone in my position

Just got back from dinner at my favourite Italian restaurant in Chicago with my great American team. Had a really good night and it suddenly dawned on me that this is the last time I will ever come here and that the next year is going to be one long emotional goodbye to all the places and people I have grown to like and respect over the years and it's going to be torture.

I almost wish I wasn't packing it in or that I was just suddenly stopping.

Maybe it's the booze but feeling very depressed ATM

You must pack it in.
You have reached the crossroad and must now make your turn
Make it a good turn for the adventures that await you my friend are many.
You are alive, why then are you depressed ?

Good points but it's only when it comes to the vinegar stroke that you realise what you give up and as this process will take a year in my case it's very hard

RtheR it must seem daunting but don't look on it as giving something up rather that you are taking on a new challenge a new adventure, you can still travel with Mrs RtheR and have the time to enjoy it

the thought of retirement scares me to death, yet there is so much to do in life. just give me my health, the rest will fall in to place.i'll know when the time is right to put my feet up.

I think we all forget how important wellbeing is what use riches if you can't enjoy them in good health? I suppose age brings the wisdom to make you realise that health is the most important thing

correct. to be fair when younger i was the same. who really thinks about things like travel insurance when in their 40's say. everyone says when i retire i'm going to go here, go there , do this. well if you are unwell you dont get cover, sure you can travel but you open up a proper risk if anything happend abroad. i know i'm odd thinking that far ahead but i just do :)

It's not just about the money.
And you will indeed know Bill

See you in the nursing home.
But not yet,not just yet.

apparently i'm never going in a home.according to my daughter she wont allow it. when the time comes i need care i will go and live with her and she'll look after me. when i asked about whatever any future husband may say about that she said he can fuck off, you are coming to mine :)
