Early Retirement

correct. to be fair when younger i was the same. who really thinks about things like travel insurance when in their 40's say. everyone says when i retire i'm going to go here, go there , do this. well if you are unwell you dont get cover, sure you can travel but you open up a proper risk if anything happend abroad. i know i'm odd thinking that far ahead but i just do :)

Nonsense.
Do more research.
I'm retired and even with declared preconditions between us of arthritis, back trouble high blood pressure and basal cell carcinoma we have annual travel insurance for all of Europe for both if us for £150 a year. All preconditions covered.
I sent this from a Corfu balcony where are with a group, one of whom has a history of brain tumours, also with insurance through the same company, Stay Sure.

apparently i'm never going in a home.according to my daughter she wont allow it. when the time comes i need care i will go and live with her and she'll look after me. when i asked about whatever any future husband may say about that she said he can fuck off, you are coming to mine :)

Ahhh the way to hell is paved with good intentions.

Just in case then Jess should get retrained as a nurse my mum needs 24/7 nursing care so impossible that she could live with me she'd die within the day oh and I'd be bankrupt too because I couldn't leave her to go out to work

I took early retirement and I wonder how I ever had time to go to work!! I'm involved with 2 schools as a Governor, I am doing courses to keep my brain active. I've got my family here there and everywhere, I have travelled to see City play all over Europe meeting some wonderful City fans on the way and I am loving it all.
Yes I had a set back health wise at the end of last year but it hasn't stopped me. I just say no and put my feet up for a rest a little more often these days but life is brilliant.

That sounds great EB wish I could retire now I still wouldn't have enough hours to do everything I want to

Yeeaahhh right.......wait until you're pissing yourself and shitting the bed......and sitting in her front room in your undies, drinking 8 Ace and swearing at the telly! You'll be off in the minibus to Gorton Parks.....

I retired 3 years ago when I was 61 and it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing is that you need a decent pension to live on. With the scheme I was on I lost 4% monthly for every year before 65 when retirement is taken. I lost just under 15% which admittedly sounds a lot but it's a good scheme and I am of course drawing a pension for longer than I would normally have done. It may not suit everyone for any number of reasons but I'm well happy.

Other advantages of being an old fart include winter heating allowance (£200 but you have to apply for it), senior railcard (30% off all fares for £30 a year) and (if you need it) a free bus pass when you turn 60. Some away tickets qualify for old fart rates for over 60s (Cardiff last season was one) and next summer I'll qualify for a state pension and an old fart's seasoncard at City. Being an old fart has some advantages as long as you stay alive long enough to enjoy them ;)

Steady on, lb. The correct terminology for us on retirement 'entitlements' is FOC.

I took late retirement. I waited a couple of years for Mrs Ewing to catch me up, but I got fed up of waiting. I'm now in my seventh year of retirement, Mrs Ewing is just coming up to two! Today we had a nice cycle ride from Littleborough to Rawtenstall with two other FOC cycle club members and a nice cup of coffee in a lovely cafe on Bank Street in Rawtenstall. No paper plans before we start, no reviews when we got back and no risk assessments re riding with traffic on the nation's highways. Might do the same tomorrow, weather permitting. If it pees down, I'll think of summat else. It's a bit of a struggle but I should think I'll get to grips with it in another thirty years! I've done both: work, and play. And, come on, yer know which one's best!!

thats a typical saturday night for me mate.

God I am hoping to do this - I want to get there early enough so as for it not to be wasted on me Ducado - been in pensionable work since I was 18 and now approaching 54 - for the most part good Final Salary schemes though last 4 years downgraded to DB scheme after my employer - who took years of pension holidays in the 80's/90's when it was going good - now doesn't have the dosh to make up the shortfall !!

Wanna be done by 60 at the latest - best case scenario would be lucrative redundancy and enhanced pension terms so taking it early won't result in penalties then that will be me done - feet up laughing. Wish me luck!!
