Early Retirement

Retirement is wasted on the old

Sounds like youth is wasted on the young. The whole pension idea is mad to me. You should work until you are physically or mentally not able.. No man/lady of leisure should exist..

They say people live longer when they have a job to do, or someone who depends on them. I don't get "the reward" of doing nothing once you're 65 or whatever..

30 mate.. 14 years of work so far.. I know people feel like they've 'paid their dues and have had enough' but it's inefficient. It's a psychology I understand but don't think is useful.

Been getting up and off to work almost every morning for 36 years less the odd sick day or holiday and its become tiresome. Part of my planning for some time has been to looking after myself and my family and I think retiring and not working myself to death would epitomise that for me. I'd be genuinely interested if you feel the same in another 14 years ( and perhaps 6 more on top of that ) years. I don't think my efficiency in the workplace is increasing and I owe it to the youth to make way and give them an opportunity to make it in life - not much point in saving in a pension and not use it eh?

I'll never retire. I'll die on the job, probably swinging a hammer (or falling off a roof). I'm 51 now and self employed. I'm either saving up for medication, or for my wife's 2nd marriage.

Retired fifteen years ago (clouds and silver linings). I'm now 51and a full time grandfather of four and loving every minute of it.

^I understand completely mate.. I just happen to disagree in terms of efficiency. We all look at life differently. I'm in a particular job where I know I will work till I'm dead/unable. No pension to be had. But my philosophy of the human being requires me to believe you do your bit till you die.. if possible/if able. If you spend 15 years of life not lifting a finger then some other poor sod somewhere is paying for it realistically.
