Easy Changes to Improve the game.

Do not give offside when the player who receives the pass has ran in the direction of his own goalie to get the ball (away from the goals he wants to score in) & now has near half the opposition's team goal-side of them, only for the flag to go up

A smaller change - I've always said that one change I'd make is to get rid of offsides when a team gets a free kick.

A much bigger change - I'd genuinely go towards a 'stop the clock' method when the ball goes out of play. The ball couldn't have been in play for more than 60 mins total against Everton. Though not sure how it would practically work with TV, Police, Transport all becoming a bit of a bigger issue as games could last longer...

There's a consistency about most of the suggestions/responses many of which are common sense and low/no cost.

It would be very interesting to run the thread on other fan forums and to hear the views of the players.

After the ESL fiasco the authorities stated that the game had to be given to the fans who would be first and central to all decisions and changes.....that went well didn't it !!

Fans are a very low priority. Ive had a season ticket for most of my life, but im getting increasingly turned off the game because i dont pay hard earned money to see the ball in play for less than 60 mins of a 90 min match. The £20 season ticket increase hit home that owners, authorities etc dont give a flying fuck about the match going fan

Rugby union has a bigger problem with ‘ball in play’ time due to collapsed scrums etc but they are actively seeking a solution. Sports like rugby and cricket are innovators , miked up refs etc.
football seemingly wants to remain in the dark ages.
It makes you wonder what they are trying to hide

Every fourth time one of a team's players stops play for some injury or cramp ... he then has to go off & stay off for 10 mins.

If a game finishes 0-0 or 1-1, the team with the more corners wins (provided they won at least 8 more than opposition), as they were probably the ones actually trying to win it.

Actual time ball was in play is timed, and if below 70 mins at the end, the difference from 70 mins is the least the ref is allowed to add on. So if ball only in play for 60 mins, he has to add at least 10 mins.
i read that Rugby League are bringing in a Green Card to stop feigning of injury. If a player goes down injured then he he green carded and stays off for 2 mins.

I have long been an advocate of a stopped clock. I played and refereed basketball for many years. It is so easy to implement. Clock stops when the ref blows his whistle, including when ball goes our for a throw. Clock starts again when the ball is touched by a player on the field. It will need less than 45 min halves but you get what you pay for, a full game of football.
