Since October I have had five weeks of this crap. 3 weeks in Sheffield a week in Birmingham and a week in London. Eating on your own in a Hotel Restaraunt has to be one of the loneliest things going.

Well now you know, just log onto Off Topic and get social tips from us lot. Easy

Not on the festering South Yorkshire/Nottinghamshire border you dont; unless you stand on your head in Reception with all the windows open to get an Internet connection.

Re: Eating on your own in public

I've worked abroad for the last 10 years and ate alone in restaurants too many times to mention.
At first I found it an ordeal to eat in a restaurant on my own, thinking everyone was talking about me, now i don't give a feck.
One thing I used to do was get in the restaurant as son as it opened, so that I was the first in there, that way i'd have finished my meal before any other people came in.
It's a bit easier abroad, because as soon as I open my mouth they know I'm not a local and probably there on business.

I wonder how his steak is? Got to assume he is eating presently with the lack of input. We still don't know the details of his meal either. Poor form after we went out of our way to assist......

I once made the mistake of going for a pizza in Italy on a Sunday night. Families everywhere and kids running around pointing and laughing.

The steak was very nice, and for those eager to know, a classic peppercorn sauce, and some well cooked veg. Steak itself was a tad beyond the rare I was hoping for, but certainly not incinerated.

The man who suggested a brandy is a genius.

I've had to travel for work many times on my own and as you can see from here so have many others. It's perfectly natural to be eating alone in a hotel restaurant, the best thing to do is give off the impression that you are a Very Important Businessman.

She didn't stay for dessert, so i slipped her a tenner and told her to get the first round in. I suspect she's warming the comfy seats by the fire in the bar as we speak.
