Did anyone see this fact on the BBC:

In 2013/14, public spending per head in the UK as a whole was £8,936. In England, it was £8,678. In Scotland it was £10,275. In Wales it was £9,924 and in Northern Ireland it was £10,961.

How isn't this split equally per head..

do you really not know?

Slightly off topic but it is fabulous to see events like this in manchester. That shot of media city on itv news at ten then was brilliant. Love having media city up here now. So important to perception of our city.

Without being pedantic, it was in Salford.

It was ironic that last night whilst watching the Strangeways programme and "Salford" was sprayed on the cell walls after the riot. 25 years on and they're hosting the leaders debate and Question Time there tonight.

We elect MPs to have our say.

We didnt have a referendum on NHS reorganisation did we.

You cannot type that with a straight face surely, sometimes it is better to ponder for a while rather than post

I am actually totally against referenda on any subject. I think they are bad politics.

My personal view on it. Sorry you dont agree, but i dont like them. We have MPs we elect, we pay them to make our decisions for us. Government by referenda is just not feasible on any level.

Switzerland do ok.

Not feasible on every issue i agree but let's take europe and immigration as a topic as they are the same thing

labour europe mass immigration
libs europe mass immigration
greens europe mass immigration
snp europe mass immigration
plaid cymru europe mass immigration
tories fudge then big pr stunt for europe immigration
Ukip get out of europe

so if you are against uncontrolled immigration you have to vote UKIP even though you may think they are completely useless

we had a false say in the 70's i would like to vote lib dems but immigration is a sticking point, swaying from the libs to ukip is a bit of a stretch

If immigration and the EU is such a major issue then surely UKIP would win a majority in Parliament and a referendum would not be needed. I would accept that no problem.

Perhaps Immigration and the EU is not such a major issue and therefore if it is not why hold a referendum on it when there are bigger issues in peoples lives.

But as i say im against referenda per se

Switzerland do ok.

They get about 50% turnout for referendums and only have 5 million voters. Not sure that classifies as doing ok.

it will be one of several major issues, it has been going on for years now, it needs to be rectified so we can move on

It is a big issue though for a lot of voters, its just you dont base your vote off one issue do you ?.

We can only dream of a 50% turnout right now
