The Independent has an interesting spin on it.

Manchester City remain hopeful that they will lure the Belgium midfielder Eden Hazard, one of their top two summer targets, amid suspicions that Chelsea's interest in the player may have been artificially inflated by his agents in a bid to secure a better deal.

He has the same agent as Yaya i believe and was Chelski not mentioned as a possible move for Yaya - agent a twunt ands the boy a primadonna

Well it depends which report you believe - there are several indicating that the deal was done it was only when the agent demanded ridiculas agents fees for the transfer that it turned shit

I agree with the clubs stance. It would create a major conflict of interest if he was earning more then some of our established stars. Well done City.

I do hope we sign him, but on our terms. If Chelsea want to sign him then so be it, but I'd imagine it would create those same ego problems in the dressing room there.

He will be great to watch in the premier league.

Belgian playmaker Hazard confirmed that he would leave Lille this summer after scoring a hat-trick during a 4-1 win against Nancy on Sunday in his final game for the club.

But despite being in pole position to sign the 21 year-old, who is also a target of Chelsea and Manchester United, City have made it clear to Hazard and his advisers that they will not meet his salary demands, which are understood to be around £200,000 a week. Instead they are prepared to offer around £110,000 a week.

The higher figure would move the Belgium international alongside Yaya Touré and Carlos Tévez as City’s top earners, but while that pair arrived as proven performers from Barcelona and United respectively, Hazard’s reputation is built on his performances in the French league.

As a result, senior figures at the Etihad Stadium have no intention of sanctioning a pay deal which would mean he earned more than Sergio Agüero, David Silva and the club captain, Vincent Kompany.

City accept that Chelsea’s interest in Hazard is genuine and the player himself admitted on Sunday that the Stamford Bridge club’s new status as European champions made them an attractive proposition.

However, with City conscious of the need to move towards complying with Uefa’s incoming Financial Fair Play regulations, they are determined to adopt a sustainable approach in the transfer market.

The exorbitant salaries paid to the likes of Tévez, Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Touré when they signed in 2009 are viewed as thing of the past. City are now confident that their success on the pitch means that they no longer have to pay excessive wages to tempt players.

City’s Abu Dhabi power brokers will not succumb to the pressure being applied by the Hazard camp and are ready to call their bluff by holding firm should Chelsea edge closer to signing the player.

And while United’s interest in Hazard remains, the Old Trafford club are also understood to be unwilling to consider the player’s financial requirements.

United have distanced themselves from a hoax website which carried a statement claiming that a deal had been struck with Lille for Hazard.

The phoney website is understood to have been set up in Ireland at the weekend and United insist that it is not connected to the club.

Sorry if already posted.
I hadn't seen it so thanks for posting! Sounds about right, too. Two of the three clubs are standing their ground and I don't imagine Chelsea is going to go insane either.

Some good football journalism in the Mail (for once)

THANK GOD! We are actually being responsible and preparing for FFP! We should not have to bend the knee to outrageous transfer fee's and wages when we have a proven squad that has just won the premier league!

In these FFP days all players are going to have to cut their demands as all clubs are now restricted, the days of unlimited wages are over,so the players better get used to it.

100 grand a week,if that can't keep him in bread and milk then he needs a new housekeeper.

I think people are getting nervous because certain premier league teams are involved.

It seems like every transfer window, there are stories that we have problems with wage demands.

And honestly, there's no way in hell he's asking for 200k a week. I stopped reading after that figure.

Listening to Talk Sport now. French football correspondent on now. Says we were miles ahead of everyone until very recently, united and chelsea only just come to the table. He seems to think we will edge it. Apparently Patrick Viera was hazards absolute idol growing up as a kid, the influence of him at the club will sway him. He also stated he has expressed a desire to win something and be part of a winning team, says the idea of working with Mancini and our current squad satisfy him on that front. When pushed to make a decision he said we will sign him but united will try to be at the table to as late as possible. Sorry I couldn't get any direct quotes as Im literally listening to it now. Anyone interested have a listen the time was 3.30am 22nd of April. I dont know what show is on now but Im sure if you check the time you can go on 'Listen Again' and hear it yourself.

Copy and paste is helpful........

Eden Hazard finds himself in an almost identical position to Wayne Rooney eight years ago. It was after Euro 2004 that Rooney found himself the hottest property in European football.

Every major club in the Premier League and on the continent was queuing up to sign the Everton striker after it became clear he would be leaving Goodison Park.

Roman Abramovich would have loved to have added English football’s crown jewel to his Chelsea revolution.

History tells us that Rooney could have cleaned up under Jose Mourinho, who won back-to-back titles at Stamford Bridge.

Instead the Croxteth lad chose the established – and, rather than short-term gain, invested in the long haul.

His reward was four Premier League titles and counting, the Champions League and a further two finals and a place in Old Trafford folklore.

He was a whisker away from winning a fifth title last season, but overtook George Best and Dennis Viollet to move up to fourth place in United’s list of all-time leading goal scorers.

Even after Chelsea’s Champions League triumph, do you think Rooney regrets the decision he made years ago?

Hazard now finds himself having to choose between the new money of City and Chelsea or the established in United.

Like Rooney he would be heading to United in the midst of another rebuilding job – but the potential rewards are massive.

Ferguson is trying to create his third Champions League-winning team by injecting exciting young players into his squad.

He has already beaten back Abramovich’s billions – and is determined not to be drowned out by City’s Abu Dhabi oil.

He has won almost twice as many titles as City and Chelsea combined – and neither of those can compare to his record for developing world class talent.

Hazard’s power and trickery bears closer comparison to Cristiano Ronaldo than Rooney – and the Portuguese should be the example to prove that Old Trafford is the right move for him.

Under Ferguson, Ronaldo matured from a fitful and impulsive raw talent into the best player on the planet, being crowned world footballer of the year after helping United to the Champions League in 2008.

Hazard may have the faith in his own ability to go his own way. To try to help City break into Europe’s elite or become part of the second coming of the Roman army at Chelsea.

The alternative option is the Rooney route – and the challenge of proving himself capable of becoming a legend among legends of Old Trafford

rofl what a clown

the worst part is that 99.99% of them are thinking like this.. arrogant and desperate

I can believe his fears about getting maximum playing time.

He's a 21 year old that sees Aguero, Tevez, Silva, Nasri and probably thinks "well fuck, where's the room for me?"

If City were ready to meet his and his agent's demands he wouldn't think much about it ;)
I do believe playing time is a big deal for him. He has said this many times.

Hell, even his father has said the same as well:
"The priority for Eden is one thing: games. Opportunities. It might be better to join a club just below the biggest."

Game time won't be an issue at City. We stumbled for months partly due to lack of wingers and pace. He will probably be one of our star players along with Sergio and Silva.

Problem is that he probably doesn't know that ;).
