I'm not having a go Red_Fan, but United fans have been duped by the media for having the best academy in the world. It's simply not true, but a theory propagated by the fact they can quote the "golden generation" of Neville, Butt, Giggs, Scholes, Beckham etc. as graduates.

Couldn't have put it better. It boggles the mind how they manage to convince people with this myth. Since the golden generation who is the best they have produced? Darren Fletcher, a maybe £15million player at his very best? Brown, O'Shea, Campbell, Ebanks-Blake, Shawcross, Evans, Bardsley, Welbeck, Cleverley... really, are these supposed to compare to the likes of Ajax (Sneijder, van der Wiel, van der Vaart, Stekelenburg, Heitinga, Huntelaar, de Jong, Vertonghen) and Barcelona (need I list them all)... even Southampton (Bale, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain) have produced higher quality players in recent years.

While we do have one of the best academies around, The award for best academy going ( in the UK ) has to go to West Ham, the amount of legends they have produced is insane.

To be honest I don't blame them for believing it. So easy to fall into that trap if the lie is being barked at you all day from TV to the papers.

A part of me almost feels sorry for United fans because they're being made to look like mugs whenever they quote these lies as fact. Then I realise they're rags and continue to laugh at them...

Great post

Take a look at their line up and then digest the bullshit they have all these homegrown players they've developed. Many were very close to th finished article when bought but Fergie gets the credit. To every Rooney there's a Kleberson. Anderson's career and talent is dropping by the day, a shadow of the player he was at Porto. Speaking of which look at them and Lisbon for talent brought through.

I feel he will sign for Ushited by Monday.

Staggering that you still keep up the pretence of being a blue.

Fair play for your perseverance...

He will play tonight after 4 hours, then the reporters will ask him again about his future.

Hopefully there will be a positive news for me at least.

Man City’s academy has produced international players like Shaun Wright-Phillips, Dickson Etuhu and Stephen Ireland, as well as the likes of Vladimir Weiss, Kasper Schmeichel, Daniel Sturridge and Nedum Onouha.

Arguably produced better players over the years than United have.

Wonder when any announcement will be.

England v Belgium 2 June. Have Belgium got another game coming up soon?

I don't remember any of our signings publicly saying where they're going before they sign, we usually don't find out until we see cameras of them leaving hospital and being driven to the ground.

I don't think after the game in front of reporters he's going to go "I choose City"

all apart from Onouha were bought at 15/16. We didn't produce them, other clubs did.

Even Richards was bought at 14 from Oldham. The only true produced players (from 9 years old) we have had who are doing well for themselves are Trippier, Mee and Clayton, nothing to write home about is it?

I agree that United's academy does get overhyped and, bar the Beckham, Giggs, Butt, Scholes, Neville period, they haven't really produced top/world class players and should, in no way, be compared to Ajax or La Masia. Not a fucking chance.

However, when you point to players like SWP, Etuhu, Ireland, Schmeichel, Sturridge & Onuoha, they have Shawcross, O'Shea, Brown, Richardson, Bardsley & Gibson and to a lesser extent, Ebanks-Blake, Campbell & Eagles.

They also have Evans who plays regularly for them too.

Fact is, whilst United's academy is no longer producing the world class talent that you see Ajax & Barcelona do on a regular basis, they are still producing players who regularly play for their teams at the highest level of English football.

I don't think our academy is as good as is made out but it is one of the best in England and I did read that we have the highest percentage of academy graduates playing in the PL over the last number of years.

I didn't claim anything else. Anyway it's not really relevant to Eden Hazard, because he's obviously not an academy prospect.

Anyway, anyone see this? He really doesn't give anything away.

Can you guys open a topic about the academies and leave this topic for Hazard related discussions only ?

According to reports Lille star Eden Hazard is close to formally signing for Manchester United.

Hazard's agent confirmed yesterday that the Belgian had agreed personal terms with United, Manchester City and Chelsea and would be announcing his choice next week.

However, Mercato365 claims Hazard has decided on a move to United and now only minor details need to be settled to complete the switch to Old Trafford.

The player and United already have a broad agreement and only loose ends need to be tied up before the five-year deal is officially confirmed.
