Ederson (defensive midfielder Atalanta)

Some interesting points made. I watch a bit of Italian football and Ederson isn’t a truly stand out player, however we don’t need that at the moment. What we need is a tough midfielder who covers the ground quickly and can keep us a bit more steady. A player who is just as good running back as he is running forward (which is something we truly lack atm).

The Atlanta attack is fairly lethal, however they rarely get broken on as Ederson is the glue that holds it together.

He’s also not risk averse and can cut through the lines with his passing or dribbling.

We still have magicians to do the creative work.

Big yes from me.
100%

I think my claim was that some viewed De Roon as the DM and Ederson as the CM.not that i think that.
.

I think if we are being technically accurate. They play with 2 central midfielders both kinda working the middle with Ederson being the more mobile of the 2 which lead some to concluded he is the CM and the other guy more the DM.

I don't care one way or the other, players are not positions and sometimes tactics change the meaning of a position. A DM is just a CM with a more defensive orientation.

More important is that he has the attributes to play DM. Kinda like Fernandihno when he joined us.
I saw this response after I replied to your initial one.

Ignore my first reply, I agree with what your saying here with more context.

Where you play on the field doesn’t necessarily dictate whether you’re primarily in the team for attacking or defensive purposes

Pirlo played deeper than Gattuso for Milan. Kanté has been mostly used as a box-to-box ball winner ahead of a deeper playmaker (Drinkwater, Jorginho etc). Sarri played him even higher up the field to lead the press. Park Ji-sung was another forward player primarily in there to press and run out of possession

Don't give Pep ideas! We'll have Rico Lewis playing right-back from left wing.

Its a middle 2? Where are you getting 3.

He absolutely is a DM.

You need to actually watch Atalanta play, he very often slots in the back line to make it a 4.

It might get into semantics on the difference between a DM and CM.
Middle 2. 3 must have been a typo

A defensive midfielder is a necessity as soon as possible.

If Éderson isn't gonna happen this month then these would be my alternatives (in order of preference)

Exequiel Palacios, Bayer Leverkusen
Martín Zubimendi, Real Sociedad
Tijjani Reijnders, AC Milan
Nadiem Amiri, Mainz
Anton Stach, Hoffenheim
Azor Matusiwa, Rennes
Pablo Maia, São Paulo

If Bruno Guimarães or Carlos Baleba become available I would throw them in there too, but seemingly they aren't.

Reports out of Spain saying they would demand 50-60 million Euro's for him, I'd cough it up if that were the case

Fernandinho was an attacking midfielder for Shaktar until he was about 28.

If he has a couple of tools he can easily be coached into a pure DM if that is what Pep wants. But need to remember that actually having someone capable of covering ground and winning the ball in midfield could actually make current Gundo or Kovacic look competent as the holding midfielder playing beside him. Put 34 year old De Roon for example into our team and he will look like a pensioner. We need someone that can make life easier for the players we already have
De Roon can get fucked. I’m still not over his last minute equaliser for Middlesbrough in Pep’s first season.

How would real fit him in the team ?
they only have Tchouameni, Valverde and Camavinga for these positions considering Bellingham plays the 10. so 1 more player would help them. Ceballos is a major downgrade.

So they actually have 4 players.

Ceballos is still depth even if not a starter and is Spanish, which they have few players.

You are also forgetting Modric, old as he is, still plays there.

Madrid dont really need him, they need CBs and a RB.

Ceballos is just there because they need Spanish players. He is as important as Nunes to us and people here still want a bunch of CM and call Nunes useless or that we should get rid of him for being bang average. The same can be said about Ceballos. Getting Ederson now before he moves to City or whatever other clubs is only logical when Modric is about to leave at the end of the season.

Are they star players on your FC 25 PlayStation game?

No way you have in depth knowledge of those players; )

I can tell why we barely bought players over the last years. Look at stuff like this. I am sure that they could get Marmoush for 50M too if they wanted instead of us paying like 20 more. It’s the city tax.
