Edin Dzeko (contract update page 370)

Re: Edin Dzeko legend

I know this is controversial, and would never happen with the amount of talent on this team. But if Mancini would tailor his tactics to fit Dzeko's talents (when he starts), Dzeko would be scoring goals for fun and would lead the League in scoring. This means quicker build up, more direct passing, let him run onto crosses or get the ball facing the goal instead of with his back to the goal. I know it's wishful thinking, but that's what I'd like to see happen. The reason it won't happen because we have so many talented midfielders who can also score, but I think this is the reason we have struggled. When teams park the bus we look really inefficient, and our strikers get frustrated.

Who knows?
One thing's for sure though; Dzeko is not suited for a tiki-taka style of football where technique, quickness in thought and ball control are crucial requirements.

Actually I would say he is.

But I don't think City play a game where quickness in thought is a requirement. Our build up play is at a snails pace.

If he played for United he would be getting 25-30 goals a season.

Everyone can see that though so you have to ask the question why did Mancini buy him when he knew exactly the team he was trying to build?

I have to say he is doing very well at the moment and how we are playing is really suiting him. It is when we slow it right down that he really struggles because suddenly we will explode and move through the gears in seconds and he seems to just be like a statue.

Keep the same tempo and formation we are playing right now and he will continue scoring. Simple.

Yet he still leads the team in goals, despite playing several hundred minutes less than Kun/Carlos. That just shows his massive goal scoring ability.

Re: Edin Dzeko legend

Dzeko scores very different types of goals to the rest of the team, though. Where Aguero and Tevez are capable of creating chances for themselves, Dzeko often thrives on service and being on the end of a knock-down.

I've lost count of the amount of goals Dzeko has scored for us with his first touch. The only goals I've seen him work entirely for himself are the goal he scored at Loftus Road against QPR in 2011 and his second goal against Aris in the Europa League.

Yes my friend, but this is why football is a team game, not an individual game.

An average team will always beat a bad team made up of great individuals. What is the use of Carlos or Kun dribbling through the defenses just to lose the ball 9/10 times, when the team can pass to Dzeko who will score 5/10 times.

The point it to score more goals, not to create more chances.

So what's the question mate?
