Edin Dzeko

Roberto Mancini had some soothing words for Edin Dzeko after the City striker’s amazing miss at Swansea, writes STUART BRENNAN.

The Blues boss reassured the Bosnian star that he missed plenty of open goals in his own stellar career – and praised him for helping to improve the standard of City’s game in the second half.

Dzeko somehow side-footed wide after Pablo Zabaleta had teed him up, five yards out, with the goal at his mercy, although there is a suggestion that the linesman raised a flag, and it would have been disallowed even if he had scored.

Dzeko is heavily tipped to leave City in the summer, with Borussia Dortmund and several Italian clubs all being touted as possible destinations – there is even speculation that he could head for Napoli as part-exchange for City target Edinson Cavani.

But Mancini was not in the mood to criticise the hapless striker, who remains City’s top league goalscorer with 12 goals.

“I didn’t see the miss very well from the bench, but I could see it was an incredible chance – I am sorry for him because he played very well in the second half and deserved to score,” said Mancini.

“I missed a lot of chances like that in my life. When you are unlucky, this is what happens in football.”

A last pat on the back before he leaves, I guess....

spot on ... Mancini being nice to Edin before he heads off... probably trying to persuade him to go to Napoli and Serie A to help City land Cavani!

Samaras (Apps=55; Gls=8)
Corradi (Apps=25; Gls=3)
Jo (Apps=21; Gls=1)

You are either trolling or just plain stupid having courage to publicly say that about Edin comparing him to these three City players you mention. Maybe I missing something, but these 3 didn't help team win any silverware while wearing Blue. Correct me if I am missing something please..

"He isn't fit to lick the Goats boots!!

Disgusting!! And you call yourself true City fan !!

you misunderstood his post, he meant to say "last pat on the back before he (Mancini) leaves lol haha... Edin will not sign for Napoli, not a chance. It should be better team than MCFC, i.e. Bayern or Dortmund or Real Madrid...

Notts County away, what a beauty counter that was.
Blackburn away, deflected shot by Silva, Edin scored a goal that secured CL spot.
Two at the swamp plus assist to Silva for the fifth.
4 at the Lane
Wigan away
QPR away
QPR home
winning goal vs Spuds
winning goal vs WBA (another beauty counter)

13 very important goals which is already more than Corradi, Jo and Samaras scored while playing there.

Blackburn away did not mean champs league qualification.

The delusion is strong in this one.

All our strikers have underperformed, but Tevez is our top scorer with 17.

You can score goals outside of the league games you know

You certainly can - Tevez scored five of those goals against Watford, Leeds, and Barnsley.
Point being?

Do they not count?

Or are you saying that Dzeko's inability to score past Barnsley after playing the full 90 minutes is bad?

Oh, it's another knock on other players to promote another, I get it.

Bloody hell, I thought you couldn't see my posts anymore.

To answer your questions (although, let's face it, they aren't really questions are they? Still, if being argumentative get's you through the night, who am I to judge?), yes, goals against lower division opposition do count if you're talking about total goals for the season, but not if you're talking about league goals (as the previous poster was). I suspect that goals scored against weak opposition would be a major issue for many posters if it was someone other than Tevez who scored them, but you should know from my extensive posting on the issue of our three strikers' stats, that I haven't made any distinction between goals scored against good or bad opposition.

Yes, Dzeko's inability to score in 90 minutes against Barnsley is bad if you consider goals scored as the only way to judge a striker. As you'd be aware if you actually read my posts rather than immediately trying to find fault with them, I consider team goals to be a more important striker stat than individual goals, in which case, Dzeko and Tevez get equal credit for the Barnsley game. However, if you think that's ridiculous (which you obviously do now, since I just wrote it) and you think that 90 minutes of non-scoring is a bad thing, then we should consider goals per game (i.e. 94 minutes) for the whole season (league and cups) to really judge our strikers, because just showing goals scored omits the important fact that Tevez has played 6 full games more than Aguero and 7 more than Dzeko (you should also probably have included the other strikers' total goals for the season, which are 16 for Aguero and 13 for Dzeko, and perhaps you shouldn't have included Tevez' goal in the Community Shield, which is technically not a competitive game; you wouldn't want anyone thinking you have an agenda...)

Anyway, if goals is where it's at, let's have a look at the numbers for every competitive game this season: Goals per game (every competitive game this season); Aguero 0.60, Tevez 0.49, Dzeko 0.51. Please note that I'm not making any comment about these figures - they are what they are.

So, to summarize;
League goals; Aguero 11, Tevez 11, Dzeko 12
Total goals; Aguero 16, Tevez 16, Dzeko 13
Goals per game; Aguero 0.60, Tevez 0.49, Dzeko 0.51

Let me finish by paraphrasing your earlier comment in light of these numbers; All of our strikers have underperformed this year, but Aguero has scored more goals per game than the others.
