Elano

Much younger and less experienced Arsenal teams have been waltzing through the Carling Cup for years.

I would have been more impressed if they played their kids. But their best ones were on the bench.

I take your point - it was by no means their strongest XI - but you seem to be taking a lot away from our performance. We comfortably beat them. They STILL had players like Clichy, Sagna, Nasri, Van Persie, Diaby, and Denilson playing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they were all playing when they beat United a couple of weeks back.

Sagna didn't play against us, Denilson is shite. Van Persie didn't play against the rags (and was rubbish Sunday).

i'm not having this weakest Arsenal team crap.. they were laden with international players from back to front. We stuffed them fair and square.. Jesus I'm convinced people follow City just to have a go.. we've beaten Arsenal.. whatever side they put out that is an achievement. Now let's get over that win and move on... Jesus, that sounds bad.. we have to get over wins as well as losses.. I despair for some on here

4 French internationals, 1 Swizz, 1 Cameroon, 1 Dutch, 1 Danish and 3 uncapped with a bench of young lads who between them have played over 20 games.

Just because Bendtner is an international does not mean he is any good.

I went away from the ground pleased that we had won but not estatic that we beat Arsenal 3-0 at home because it wasn't the real Arsenal.

Who is having a go? Plenty of over-sensitive people on here.

can we not just be glad that we have stuffed Arsenal and move on rather than picking holes in the oppo?

I'm glad that we've beat Arsenal, but I would have thought the point of a discussion board is discussing things.

fair enough.. let's discuss the game? how happy were you that we exposed arsenal's apparent defensive frailties with clinical almost surgical counter attacks. How happy were you with the fact that Hughes game plan of getting in Arsenal's faces and defending from the front to break their passing tempo worked to a tee. I was delighted with how Richards and Dunne effectively nullified any threat Arsenal presented.

There are different ways of discussing things.. I prefer to focus on what City achieved. But if you prefer to concentrate on the opponents weakness all the best to you..

We won.. fancy discussing how we can beat the rags next week?

I think we can do it. Simply because they will have no one in midfield who can cope with the attacking threat of the holy trinity of SWP, Ireland and Robinho. Benji won't be an outlet in this one so we'll have to rely on a solid defensive performance with the three lads bombing forward and Vincent mopping up in front of the back 4. Vinnie really could have a field day in the Derby because they rely on 1 of the forwards dropping off rather than a midfielder getting forward. this will free up either of our centre backs to sweep in behind and one to go win the ball.

It will be more of the same from City as regards getting in their faces and making it difficult for them to get into a tempo.. we really need to control the pace of the game and slow it down as much as possible.. if we do this we can get a result.

I've already posted my thoughts on the game. But this is a thread on Elano, and where he fits into the side so I'm not sure what relevance Dunne and Richards performances has to it.

And I'll talk about the rags, but we've got a fairly important match before then. And it probably won't be in a thread about Elano.

Manchester City midfielder Elano believes a spectacular goal struck for Brazil against Portugal last week should be enough to earn him a first team return.

"This goal is important because of everything I have to go through at my club," said Elano. "I know that I'm good enough to be a starter, but I'm trying not to talk about this, because it can cause problems. I am going to work to be a starter, here with Brazil and at my club."

Taken from tribal - my message to Elano would be to fight for your place and if you're not up for the battle with the form Ireland is in, get out.

So your message to Elano is the exact same message he has just said?

Genius.

One thing I respect about him is his desire to play. I'm glad he is not just happy to be paid thousands of pounds for doing diddly squit month on end.
