Elano

Feel free to get yer knickers in a twist about what I said. Yes, he is a bad influence, because he's no longer our top dog Brazilian. Yes, I know that for a fact.

In January, he won't be the only player to go. Many of the other players who are currently on the receiving end of some harsh abuse on this board will also be gone.

To be fair to Elano, he can pass a ball at times. But he certainly isn't anywhere near as good as Ireland, otherwise, Ireland wouldn't be playing week in and week out.

We need a squad of players who are all fighting for the same cause. What we don't need are fucking mard arses who run to the press when they get dropped. That type of shit will kill a dressing room spirit very very quickly.

Anyway, as I said, barring a miracle, he'll be gone in January. By February most on here will have forgotten about him.

I agree with all this, Billy but I still think Hughes and Elano need to make some effort to build bridges before washing their hands off each other.

The problem is, if a player throws his toys out of the pram because he is dropped for a couple of games, and you immediately reinstate him, that sends out a message to the rest of the squad...go to the media, get your place back.

I would much rather it was fixed in the correct way...ie. Elano use his time in training, and on the pitch, to show to Hughes that he absolutely cannot be dropped. What absolutely astounds me, is that players like Ireland, Hart, Kompany, have gone out and proven on a weekly basis there is no one better than them to play their positions. Why the fuck should Elano get a free ride because once every twenty six passes, one of them proves to be the killer one. He wastes as many passes as Dunne does. He is far less mobile than SWP. He certainly isn't as tenacious in the battle as SWP is. Yes, he can run around and look agitated, pull players back, nearly get himself sent off...but is he really the right player to win the ball with a show of strength and agility, then burst forward and find the right pass. Personally I don't think he is.

The nearest footballing reference point to Elano, is Riquelme. A player with undoubted talent, but one who never cut it at Barca, shone at Villareal, but was never again snapped up by a top club. That kind of languid, quarterback, style of play isn't any use to top clubs. They need players with as much steel as they have finesse.

Now of course, there are exceptions, Fabregas for example. But look at Arsenal. Any Arsenal fan will tell you that their biggest problem in the last four years has been an inability to find the right blend in midfield. The right amount of steel and flair. They've had goalscorers a plenty, but have been accused of being a soft touch since Viera departed.

Billy Shears, "He'll be gone in January and in Feburary no one will remember him" - Elano

What a clueless fuckwit you are. Have you ever, I mean ever kicked a football in your life?

Why the fuck do you judge people by your own low standards ? Get over it.

other teams are irrelevant

so your basic arguement is that you dont think that ireland can play as a box to box midfielder...??? is this correct....?

Actually, my argument if you'd bothered to read it, was that Ireland and Kompany alone cannot play in the centre of a 4 man midfield with Robinho and SWP on the wings. I used examples of two clubs with much better players than us, who if they wanted to, could use the same FM logic you used and simply play their best attacking players, but don't. It was to illustrate to you just how totally absurd your line up was.

you cut out the rdeness and ill respond in kind

you clearly know nothing about football and are unable to recognise a talented footballer when you seen him

Now you see Simon, you're another one of those people who are happy to dish out snidey digs, but when one is sent back to you you come over all headmaster like and ask for the rudeness to be cut out. Grow the fuck up you little mard arse. It's an internet messageboard, not first period English. You dished it out, you got it back. Deal with it.

Oh, and once more - what you suggested as a line up was moronic in the extreme. Shows actually that you're the dickhead who knows nothing about football...

ok i apologise for the first msg as that is unlike me

But as for the highlighted comment;
LOL.....its pathetic.......i dont mind an arguement and i dont mind you having different opinions but to respond like that just shows you for what you are.

Ireland has shown this season that he could play alongside Kompany.....he can run all day, his tackling is excellent (i think his stats for last season on tackling were up there with the best of them in the prem), and his reading of the game and break up play is also good....so why couldnt he partner Kompany.....???

I'll try not to cry myself silly knowing you think I'm pathetic. As I just pointed out, you started all the snide comments, and are STILL trying to take the moral high ground. If you'd simply come back "gee, sorry. I see now I started it, so probably deserved the shit I got back" - I'd have been happy to metaphorically shake your hand...

Because he's been our best ATTACKING midfield player. His passes in the last third of the field, his assists, his goals, show that. It would without doubt be putting him on a leash, as I said at the very beginning of this argument with you, to ask him to also take on more defensive duties. And you want him to do this accommodate Elano...a player who is often incredibly inconsistent. Do you not see the flaw in your own argument Simon?

Not for a few months E-Coli....why? Let me guess...you play Sunday league...

Why the fuck do you judge people by your own low standards ? Get over it.

Coming from the mongrel who was earlier demanding Vassel be booed because it's the right thing to do...hmm, I can live with my standards. Now why don't you run along...must be nearly time for master to take you for walkies...

One of your better posts.

You seem more able and willing to offer abuse then talking sense (not uncommon)

OK, so you feel that Vassell is worth support added to Elano playing for Brazil, but not for mcfc.

Pats Billy on head, and offers him sweet. There, there sonny.

at least i apologised for the insulting comment which was nowhere near as insulting as your retort.......but back to the arguement.

he already does the defensive duties very well....he breaks up a lot of opposition attacks.....swp is more affectuve on the right (i presume you agree with that)...so therefore MH is weakening the team in that respect (I am a fan of MH by the way).....

so with swp on the right (where he should be) and ireland in the middle.....would you play vass in the middle (either as first or second striker)...i presume you wouldnt play him at central midfield...

now i may have missed this in a 19page thread but what would your line up be?

He's never played the box-to-box role so how do you know he won't do it well?

Elano was consistent enough to be our top scorer and make most assists last year, he is also clearly one of our best players. It makes sense that you move players around to accommodate your best players when they're good enough to play more than one position. It's what good managers do, not behaving like petulant kids and dropping someone permanently over a nothing interview.
