Elano

I've heard it all now, first of all it was "Elano can't tackle", now it's "Elano can't pass".

Surely next it will be "Elano isn't actually Brazilian".

Check the stats, not only is he much better defensively than he gets credit for (albeit it's not his strong point), but his passing success rate is one of the highest in the league.

I guess anything to win an argument.

What I said was his passing was extremely inconsistent, and has been since December of last year. That's why he didn't make it into the top 10 passers of the ball last season. Nicky Butt and Phil Neville did.

Not that I'm big on stats - I much prefer to make judgments based on what I've actually seen.

But if we're going on stats - then Denilson - that player you described as "shit" today, is in the top 5 passers in the league with an accuracy of 88%, so far this season. Up there with Lampard, Mikel, Alonso, and Fabregas. Funnily enough, couldn't find Elano in there either.

Ha ha, you're comparing the passing of Elano to the passing of Butt, Neville and Denilson, and you think you're proving your point.

Now humour me Billy, tell me what you think the successful pass percentage of Elano is.

Shall I type really slowly in the hope that you will understand my point...

...you said Elano's stats were great. I pointed out last season his pass accuracy rating was lower than Butt's and Neville's and this season, his pass accuracy rate isn't as good as Denilson's. What's my point....his passing isn't THAT good when compared to other players in the league.

Now, humour me Moomba - if his passing accuracy isn't as good as Denilson's is this season, and you rate Denilson as "shit" playing in EXACTLY the same position as Elano - then where do you rate Elano?

Denilson may play the same position, but he has a very different role to Elano, surely you know that.

Now tell me, for someone like Elano that can create goals out of nowhere, what sort of consistency in passing would you expect?

20%, 99%, give me a figure.

I'm predicting it'll be late 2009 before you make any kind of telling contribution to this board...;- )

We're never going to agree on this. IMO, Elano's passing is vastly over-rated. Yes, he can play the odd sublime pass. But he can also send you loopy with his inaccuracy. He is not in the same league as say lampard or Alonso when it comes to passing. In fact, Ireland, has been a consistently much better passer of the ball this season.

20%, 99%, give me a figure.

85%, which is where players like Lampard, Gerrard, and Alonso sit. Remember after all, he's a Brazilian international...and passing is the best part of his game...

Amazed its reached 20 odd pages considering the thread amounts to:

"Elano can't play for toffee!"

"Yes he can!"

And repeat a few 100 times
