Denilson may play the same position, but he has a very different role to Elano, surely you know that.

Now tell me, for someone like Elano that can create goals out of nowhere, what sort of consistency in passing would you expect?

We're never going to agree on this. IMO, Elano's passing is vastly over-rated. Yes, he can play the odd sublime pass. But he can also send you loopy with his inaccuracy. He is not in the same league as say lampard or Alonso when it comes to passing. In fact, Ireland, has been a consistently much better passer of the ball this season.

20%, 99%, give me a figure.

85%, which is where players like Lampard, Gerrard, and Alonso sit. Remember after all, he's a Brazilian international...and passing is the best part of his game...

So what passing percentage to you think Steve Ireland has this season?

I've shown you that stats mean fuck all since Denilson, a player you describe as "shit" has a better passing percentage than Elano. Last season, when Elano played for the vast majority of games, his passing stats didn't even hold up to those of Phil Neville and Nicky Butt to name but two players...and both you and I know that he is a better passer of the ball than both of those two...

I have never said he's a shit passer of the ball. Just that he is terribly inconsistent.

What you said was that he'd sent letters to the whole first team telling them they were shit, that he'd personally written to Dunne telling him he was no longer needed, that he was moving the club to Cambodia, that he was going to replace Sven with the Thai national team coach, and that he was going to leave us in a state of financial ruin...

so here's why i think hughes is right in not playing elano atm:

regardless if he's playing a christmas tree 4-5-1, the non-descript 4-5-1/4-3-3 variation (like in my example), 4-4-1-1 or kompany alone in front of the backline in a 4-1-4-1... vassells support duties allows the def mids to concentrate on the left flank and center which in turns leaves much more room for robinho and swp.

a good decision and no argument. i'm not a: elano/yes, hughes/no-man. i think it's sensible to wait for the window to open before you play him. let's get sorted at the back first and all that.



and here's why elano should stay regardless if he fits in the system and the balance of the team at the moment:

the crowd goes "yay".


and sure... optimally elano shouldn't whinge, but quality players often do. and especially brasilians. f**k... adriano had one just the other day... ronaldinho's had plenty... so let's bench robinho and watch his reaction shall we..? oh wait... didn't he leave real for something similar..? we might wanna get pro-active on his brazilliant ass too while we're at it..?

or any star for that matter...

let's keep those nasty egos in check...

we wouldn't want them to get loose...
