Elano

First and foremost I'm a Man City fan. Nobody is bigger than the club, whether that be Hughes or Elano, and nobody has the devine right to be in the side.

It seems Vass does....especially when its not warranted.
Do any of you lot actually even realise that Elano isn't competing with Vassell for a place in the team? Hughes believes SWP offers more guile and tenacity in midfield than Elano. Vassell has nothing to do with it. It could be absolutely anyone on that right side. All Elano needs to concern himself with is why SWP is chosen in 'his' position.

If Elano wants to play, he's got to prove he offers more as a central midfielder than SWP does. He needs to up his tempo and get stuck in more and break up the opposition's moves. But that isn't his game, and that's why he's missing out.

Hughes believes that if we have Robinho, Ireland and SWP all pressing forward, we simply can't afford to have Elano in the team. It leaves Kompany with far too much work to do.

Even if Vassell leaves in Jan and Elano stays, Elano will still miss out because Diarra (or whoever) will take that central midfield position and SWP will move back out right.

There is only one position in this team for Elano and that is Stephen Ireland's position, and at the moment, he's nowhere near good enough to take it off him. Elano either accepts that he's playing second fiddle to Stevie or throws his toys out of the pram and fucks off.

Fair comment especially as Elano is probably more suited to the slower UEFA Cup style of play and could be of immense value if we manage to stay in the competition. Didi Hamann likewise.

Elano would do a better job on the right than Vass IMO. But ideally Elano in the middle and SWP on the right is a big, big improvement on SWP in the middle and Vass on the right.

I wouldn't play Elano in the middle every match, but certainly pick him ahead of Vass on the right if we decide to go "stronger" in the middle.

I thought he battled hard in defence on the weekend, looked like he had something to prove.

Depends on the opposition, but I think Elano does a lot more work defensively than he is getting credit for. Was very good against Liverpool for example in a defensive midfield role.

Quite possible that the signing of a defensive midfielder will see him on the bench, and I don't really have a problem with that. But it is a long season, and there will be injuries and suspensions. The challenge for Hughes is getting him ready and motivated to play for the times that he will be needed.

SWP's preferred position is right wing. Elano's is behind the strikers. So what's the problem? We can have SWP terrorising the left backs and Elano sending killer balls to the strikers. Vassell's not a right winger.

Ireland>Elano

Once you get past the fact that Elano is Brazilian and he must be better than a guy from the Republic of Ireland, then we can move on.

Elano has been half the player of Ireland since halfway through last season. Sven and Thaksin have gone.......evolve!

I will agree with this. I play Elano in CM on FM09, can he play there normally, with Ireland behind the strikers?

I don't think anyone is suggesting that Elano should be in the team ahead of Ireland.

There's room for both, especially if shithouses like Vassell aren't played.

You simply can't play SWP, Ireland and Elano together. We need another Kompany style player to play alongside him so that the full backs can get forward every so often.

Elano is simply a squad player now and judging by his actions, will be on his way out soon.

Worked out OK against Portsmouth, our best performance of the year so far.
