i cannot believe the comments that he gave the ball away. very rarely did he do that. also worked his arse off. seems to have gone from hero to zero with our fickle supporters!
 
We were a completely different team in the second half-simply because we had players in midfield-Elano and Kompany who were able to get hold of the ball and pass it. The team tired near the end and gave very few options for Elano to pass to.
 
Elano was a marked improvement on what Vassell offered. They may be different sided players but going off contribution, I thought Elano did much more than Vassell.

Kompany didn't start the game in midfield though,& Elano was a replacement for Haman not Vass.
Elano didn't make much difference if any.

Yes I'm well aware of that. And IMO Elano made a significant impact when he came on. It was only in the last 15 mins or so when we were out on our legs that he had very options in front of him-which gave the impression that he was dawdling on the ball.
 
Saying that Elano is better than Vass is completely missing the point and it's beginning to drive me mad. It's not Vass who's taken his place, it's SWP. Yes he did more than Vass after he came on but he was playing in a different position for a start! He went into a more central role, it was SWP who then went into Vass' position on the right.

I thought he was poor yet again and he looks completely disinterested if I'm honest. He should be showing that he cares and that he wants his place back but he just didn't. As for that free kick, it was laughable. He needs to sort his head out soon or he'll get shipped out. I've got no problem whatsoever with MH not playing him because quite simply he isn't worth his place at the moment.

What he said - I was crying out for him to come on at HT but he soon became anonymous.
 
When he came on and had a couple of nice touches I got really excited and thought to myself that the stint on the bench might have made him hungrier, but after five minutes it soon became clear why he'd been dropped in the first place. I thought he was dog shit today. His final ball ranged from lazy to baffling. I'm not blaming the defeat on him by any means, but I can't believe there is a thread on here saying how good he was. He just wasn't.
 
He did himself no favours today,he had a great opportunity but didnt take it.He didnt look as if he was interested.
 
For someone who went whining to the press about not playing, you'd have expected him to be being busting a gut today when he came on. So what happened Elano? Plenty to say off the field and nothing on it. Disappointing.

Still think it should be Sturridge who comes in for Vass. Elano isnt disciplined or a good enough tackler to partner Ireland and Kompany in midfield. Until Jan, or Johnson gets fit, SWP should still play in midfield for me... atleast against the decent teams. No problem with Elano starting against the poorer teams, at home.

What he said. Elano looked lacking in sharpness. Maybe that's the 'new-baby' thing . Maybe that's lack of mental match fitness. Probably a mixture of both. Robby seemed keen to link up with him but Elano just seemed off the pace for me.

I have to add that his tackiling is woeful. Just doesn't seem to be part of his game. How can you have a midfielder that can't tackle?

If you say he was a swap for diddi he did more, If he was a swap for vass he did much more. The team is MUCH better with SWP on the right wing. If we play him there then you have to choose between diddi and elano in midfield with Vince and Ireland. I know who I prefer.

Today when Elano came on Stevie played on the right side of midfield. I would like to see stevie on the left. like this

Stevie has a better engine so would provide more support for Garrido. Zab is a good enough RB to not need too much help from Elano.

With the current squad I'm convinced this is our best line up. Unfortunately Les doesn't see it that way so we're half way through the season and six points off the bottom of the table :-(
