Electric Car Charging

Like most things in life, your ability to take advantage of them is often linked to your ability to pay - sorry its the way of the (western) world. EV's do attract a premium price wise at the moment, which will eventually even out and become less of an issue in the 2nd Hand Market. But having the ability to home charge an EV is directly linked to your ability to own a property with off-road parking. But having the ability to own any car is linked to the capability to park outside your own property - unless you're a twat and don't care and dump it outside someone elses property. Plenty in houses round me fall into the twat category. And for the record, I am an EV owner (not a twat... much...), I do have a charger on the front of my house within reach of the spot I park in
@DiscoSteve Despite what you say, as I keep saying, terraced houses do not allow you the luxury of parking outside your own home.
I've mentioned Gorse Hill where I know from experience you had to accept that it was first come first served but there are a huge number of terraced houses throughout Manchester.
All around Maine Road, (Horton Rd/Thornton Road) Sale,
Ashton on Mersey.
Both labour and tory state 2035 as the end to petrol but neither of them have addressed the issues that will be faced. There are no plans in place to use public funds and the technology is not available.
The reason the council in the OP won't give permission is, they say, they are waiting for government guidance/rules.
Allowing an individual to own an EV is one thing, forcing a nation to do it is entirely different.

they would help pay for the infastructure not the charging.
why do you think they would be paying for the electricity?
If a block of flats had exterior charging port or ports, and they were not connected to the specific flats electric, and used only by that owner, the charge goes on the maintenance charge, along with the lighting in corridors/stairwells etc.....maybe you should read my original post on it ;)

that would be a stupid set up.
why would it be set up like that? unless the management of the flats were mentally subnormal.
it would cost the same to set it up to charge to a credit / debit card with the tariff set to just cover the cost of electricity and the running costs

I like the idea of an EV, no smoke out the back and nice and quiet. However, the rather large elephant in the room is the price and lack of infrastructure. I also think this one size fits all doesn’t add up.

That and the magic non polluting electricity.

Meanwhile the Koreans are claiming 1,500 miles range and a 5 second refuel time for a hydrogen powered car. No mention of how long it would take to set up the refuelling infrastructure.

I think these might be the way ahead. I think Toyota are experimenting with something like this in Australia where the range of current EVs obviously makes them something only twats would buy.

There was an English company, forget the name, but they were big into hydrogen cars/trucks. They struggled to get the refuelling infrastructure. They just supplied stay on site vehicles in the end.
It was supposed to be the way forward, the cynic in me says it was a bit like Freddie Laker with the airlines.
The major players don't want hydrogen.

Yes it would, however Winchester Council have set up exactly that for somebody's mobility scooter, as it is cheaper....and as you well know, whatever is easiest and cheapest, will always be any councils choice ;)

Can we not just cover the country in electrified chicken wire and have poles sticking up from our cars like a big dodgem arrangement?
Ok you might have the odd pikey hitching a free ride on the back, and he might try and finger your misses behind the candy floss stall at the services, but that's a small price to pay.
