watched him v sevilla the other night he was awful, but then again so was vinny v liverpool.

Mangala was attempting to cover for the other 3 donkeys alongside him while still performing his own duties, the fact he had no defensive cover,in the form of Fernando, also did him no favours.

Unfortunately that game was a bad example to judge his talent given he was in a poor team and was trying to hard to make up for it.

As I said earlier in the thread, alongside quality, and although still raw,he has the potential to be superb imo.

Without question. Playing alongside vincent kompany will make mangala look unbelievable IMO. When I myself first jumped up to the academy level here in the states, my first summer I had probably one of the best players to come through our club playing beside me at center half. He coached me through every attack, made sure I made no rash decisions, and taught me a great deal in positioning. I mean his communication was unbelievable. The club thought I was for sure going to be the best new acquisition they made that year. After that summer, he moved on and my new partner had no where near the experience. Needless to say, my game suffered big time. I ended up getting benched later that season and converted into a impact sub at dmid, limited to a role similar to the one javi plays now.

Point is, I was a bit like mangala, but on a much lower level -- had all the tools, just not the experience or know how. A proper partner disguised most of the flaws in my game. It was a shame I couldn't have learned from him a bit longer... I'm completely convinced training with Kompany and Demicheles week in and week out will turn Mangala into the CB we desperately crave. And as for in game, Kompany will be in is ear for the entire 90 minutes...

If he's a player willing to listen and learn, he'd be a superb pickup. All the potential is there.

lol. I try to think of it as them being really good, rather than me being really bad. could go either way though... My replacement has made a decent go at his career though ever since taking my spot. Been starting at WVU since freshman year -- i'd say MLS bound at least, hopefully more... The better he does, the more I can lie to my future children about how good I once was =). Probably make up a fake career ending injury too... it'll be fun. GO ON HAYDON

Benatia is a rolls-royce of a player. But sadly doesn't seem to be on our radar.

Benatia is 26 and is arguably in the prime of his career whilst Mangala has just turned 23 and still has development to go through and promise to live up to, if he lives up to his potential I reckon we could have another Vinny in our side, both players would go for similar fee's.

Roma are challenging Juventus for the Scudetto now along with Napoli and I doubt they will have another Summer like last year when they sold key players in Lamela and Marquinhos especially seeing as they will have Champions League football next season.

Danilo Sandro and Otamendi are hardly 'Donkeys'

Otamendi plays for Atlético Mineiro on loan from Valencia now.

I think it was Diego Reyes next to Mangala in defence and they had Defour holding.

Fernando was massively missed and it showed maybe why we are interested in him because that game proved maybe why he is a top class shielder of the back four and wanted by many.

Maicon in defence looked better in previous games I have watched of Porto but they seem to be going with Reyes recently.
