Re: Eliaquim Mangala

Would much rather us get Benatia, he's the real deal. I've never been impressed after watching Mangala plus his technique isn't the best.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

First of all I'm sure Pellegrini repeatedly said he wants two players for every position. He will rotate these players, with the better one getting the more important games. What he wants is a leftfooted central defender that replaces the departed Lescott and will rotate/fight for the spot with Nastasic. Rekik seems not PL-ready yet, so he might get another year on loan preferably to one of the other PL-teams if they are interested.
And Nastasic will only be sold if Pellegrini doesn't rate him i.e. rates Rekik more. Rekik is homegrown and Nastasic could represent good value that is needed to comply with the "Fair" Play Rules.
Demichelis has always been brought in to back up Kompany and rotate both. It was only due to the injured Nastasic and little trust in Lescott, Pellegrini decided to let Demichelis play alongside Kompany.

So, both Benatia and Mangala are leftfooted (you don't see too many around), the latter young and upcoming, the former more of a ready made product. There's not much in between them. Any both of them would be a very good signing. Either way, there will be a leftfooted centrale defender brought in, I'm sure of that. Add a goalkeeper and I think Pellegrini wants.

-Manchester City are positive they will sign up French defender Eliaquim Mangala

-Manuel Pellegrini believes Porto star is perfect partner for Kompany

-Mangala has been in impressive form for France during World Cup

-City have been monitoring the player’s performances for eighteen months

Manchester City remain hopeful of signing central defender Eliaquim Mangala from Porto.
The 23-year-old remains a priority for director of football Txiki Begiristain and manager Manuel Pellegrini and Sportsmail understands that City’s pursuit for the Frenchman will be accelerated following the player’s involvement at the World Cup in Brazil.
City are understood to have been monitoring the player’s performances for almost eighteen months and he is considered to be the perfect partner for Vincent Kompany at the heart of the Manchester City defence.

City made a concerted effort to sign Mangala from the Portuguese side in January but they were unable to come to an agreement with Porto after they were quoted £50million for the double signing of midfielder Fernando and the defender.
The club resolved to return for the pair this summer and they have since sealed the £12m purchase of Fernando and are now aiming to sign up his former team-mate. The deal could be worth in excess of £30m but City will face competition from Barcelona and PSG.
Speculation suggesting that City have agreed a deal with Roma for Moroccan defender Mehdi Benatia is jumping the gun but the 27-year-old remains high on City’s agenda, with City officials hopeful of concluding a deal for Benatia or Mangala before the start of the season.
Benatia, for his part, has decided that he wishes to leave the Italian club this summer and is eager to move to the Etihad Stadium but Roma are determined to secure a replacement before allowing him to leave.

To try and put any doubter's mind at ease with this potential signing , Manuel Pellegrini has had a closer look at Mangala when he was Malaga's coach. Although Malaga won, there must have been signs of ability to consider him one of our chief targets.

He definitely has potential but is not the finished article.

He could become the next Kompany, but could easily also become the next Phil Jones.

Poor ****.

Fuck off, I'm trying to eat.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

So the latest is we have a deal for benatia in place incase mangala chooses not to join. id prefer benatia as he seems the more rounded player but if mangala were to sign im positive with his attributes he would be a success.

Could it be will take both if Nastasic goes to Juventus, Negredo goes to Madrid and we can't pinch Sanchez.

3 at the back anyone?

Remember we have 2 of the best attacking wing backs in Zabaleta and Kolorov, with Clichy and Sagna in reserve. Reckon Zab or Sagna could cover centre half if needed and Reikik and MDM should be available too!

The engineer will have seen how Chile played so well with 3 at the back and maybe he might have ideas to try it just like Mancini did.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

I don't want him. He is fucking us about while he keeps his options open, so he isn't exactly desperate to be here. He isn't the finished article either and that is a lot of money on potential, especially seeing as he may never fulfill it.
I'd feel happier with Benatia. He's already a world class centre back and he wants to be here.
