Re: Eliaquim Mangala

Never ceases to amaze me how many people actually believe they have insider information or worse still those that believe them!

The very fact there is the worlds biggest shopping window in the form of the World Cup still to occur means very few clubs will commit to costly purchases too early for the risk of finding unknown and better talent for less.

No chance.

The business will be done PRIOR to Brazil, not after. How many players have looked immense in championships and proven to flop afterwards. Milan Baros?

The World Cup is a bad tournament to buy after, as players values will increase on the back of the tournament. Take Isco, he would have been a doddle to buy had it not been for his sensational form in the U21 tournament, the same goes for Alacantara.

I believe there are no ITK's now. People may get whiffs of who we are after, they may hear about the deals afterwards but nobody is truly ITK now. It all goes quiet in windows and that proves my point.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

if we really are interested in him, we'll probably want to keep quiet about it. not wanting to get into a bidding war and just general discretion.

if we aren't interested in him, we'll probably want to keep quiet about it. happy for it to distract others from our real targets.

if we're not that bothered, we'll probably want to keep quiet about it. cos we're just not that bothered.

hope that helps

Thats the one thing teams should never do in the transfer market. Good section in the soccernomics book about that.

If City had panned on moving on, there'd be leaks put out by agents trying to find Mangala and Fernando other moved. The only other option for Mangala is PSG, but they have Silva and Marquinhos. If Mangala comes to City he will play alongside Kompany and he knows this.

Won't be long before Di Marzio lets it be known I am sure. City are sold on both, Fernando I reckon is in the bag, Mangala's third parties are the problems. They will want to juice the deal for all it's worth.

If Fernando has signed a new deal I don't see us going for him again, we would look fools for paying a heavy price compared to the fee that was being branded about in January.

Fernando just committed to play for Portugal in December was told he'd be frozen out of the side which would limit his chances if he didn't sign a new deal. Doing so would have thrown away his likely only chance to play in a World Cup. We "looked like fools" to a lot of uninformed people for being willing to pay as much we did for Fernandinho and look how that turned out. If the club wants him, they'll still make a go regardless of his contract situation.

Unknown players who play for national teams who've made the World Cup?

Chin stroker that.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

Having a great game so far. Reminds me a lot of Kompany with the way he tries to dominate the attackers, always on the front foot, always trying to get in early and not give them a sniff. At the moment he still makes mistakes and commits when the chance to win it isn't there, but in time he'll get that judgement better, just as Kompany has.

Edit. Now he's injured and limping badly, so has been playing a less aggressive covering role and doing it well. Very impressive, not seen him have to play like that before but he's showing a lot more judgement and positioning. Fernand has been very good also, absolutely all over the place getting in peoples faces and breaking stuff up, by far the best Porto have played this season

There are no unknowns anymore. Football is so well scouted now that every single player worth knowing about from the age of 13 up are known to most clubs.

Wenger found his niche in the late 90s. He used to go and find young players from French teams who nobody had even thought to look at and bought them for pittance. Now everybody does that. That is how all Academies are run.

15 year olds are being bought for a few million now whether in fees or payments to families.
