Re: Eliaquim Mangala

If Pellegrini, Txiki and co. think he's worth that much money, then he must be, sometimes it's really hard to judge potential in advance.

Having a great game so far. Reminds me a lot of Kompany with the way he tries to dominate the attackers, always on the front foot, always trying to get in early and not give them a sniff. At the moment he still makes mistakes and commits when the chance to win it isn't there, but in time he'll get that judgement better, just as Kompany has.

Edit. Now he's injured and limping badly, so has been playing a less aggressive covering role and doing it well. Very impressive, not seen him have to play like that before but he's showing a lot more judgement and positioning. Fernand has been very good also, absolutely all over the place getting in peoples faces and breaking stuff up, by far the best Porto have played this season
which game was it? would like to download and watch it.

It was the first leg of the Portuguese Cup v Benfica. Not a fantastically entertaining game so I wouldn't really recommend downloading it, they play each other again another 4 times in the next month or so and they've got the Europa League latter stages left, so there's plenty of chances of seeing him in tough games.
Porto are playing an awful lot better since sacking their manager a few weeks ago and all their players are looking better and more organised as a result. Fernando was probably MOTM in that game, doing what he does best and the entire team defended brilliantly. I can't recall Benfica even getting a sniff of a chance. For a team with such a young defence, having a manager with a system makes such a difference

Watch the Youtube video I linked to a few pages back. That account has the entire game versus Napoli (unless it's been taken down). He was very good.

Never ceases to amaze me how many people actually believe they have insider information or worse still those that believe them!

The very fact there is the worlds biggest shopping window in the form of the World Cup still to occur means very few clubs will commit to costly purchases too early for the risk of finding unknown and better talent for less.

Unknown players who play for national teams who've made the World Cup?

Chin stroker that.

It's nonsense.

Any player called up is known of. Also, buying from tournaments is dubious, the likes of David Healy look like Suarez.

The only world cups worth scouting are the youth ones, but even then you have packs of scouts and older club players/coaches as proven by United last summer who basically camped out at anything Spanish.

simply not true; sensible managers realise that a good tournament will massively inflate a player's value and would therefore prefer to wrap up deals before the tournament

This guy has potential but its a lot of money for an unproven player.
Don't think he's unproven personally. If you watch him play, he's just so damn similar to Vincent. I think he's absolutely perfect for our team. He isn't worth more than Thiago Silva, but he's easily a 30m player. I'd be happy if we signed Alex Silva and Danilo while we were at it. Just take half of Porto's team. :)

Edit: With that being said, he just got caught in possession and almost gifted them a goal. Close one! Happens to the best of them.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

Saw the highlights tonight. Looked like he had a good game.

I watched him for 90 mins in a previous round and was not convinced.
