Re: Eliaquim Mangala

If he is as raw as some say then why not take time on the decision & see how Rekik gets on at the World Cup, think he will get in the Dutch squad. Use the Mangala money on Shaw & hopefully get Isco to City.

Rekik is miles away from being a partner to Vinny, he might be in the future.

Mangala may be raw but he is still one of the best central defenders I have seen this season and I do think he would be quality next to Vinny.

I think we have to take into consideration that we are not currently in a period of footballing history where there are an abundance of world class central defenders and most of them are already taken up by the top clubs.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

I don't understand.

We lose a game, or Demichelis makes a mistake, the general consensus is that we need to break the bank and find the partner Vinny deserves. But as soon as we find that partner Vinny deserves, it's suddenly a huge risk because we'll have to break the bank to get him.

Right now United are so desperate for good players they're going to spend £200m on midfielders alone in order to compete again. Why are we suddenly so careful with our money when it's clear that not having a partner for Kompany has held us back?

United won't spend £200m. All this paper talk about this player and that is just the United PR machine covering over the cracks. Sure they will bring in 4 or 5 players but they will spend £120m max - after all they have their youth system that's already produced Ronaldo and Rooney! And players won't need big fees and wages to join the Wee Davy Revolution. We need to forget about them and just address the problems in our squad and getting an A1 partner for Vinnie is number one but cover for Vinnie is number two.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

I've never seen Mangala play, but from what people say on here he is far from the finished article. We have Nastasic and rekik coming up who have bags of potential, but also aren't world class defenders yet. I think if we're going to go out and get a centre back we want one that is already world class and isn't lacking in key parts of his game, which it seems Mangala is by what a few people on here have said.

How many truly world class central defenders are around in this generation though? There are a lot of decent defenders but only a few world class.

Mangala is an absolute monster in terms of physical specimen and is raw in parts of his game but he is by far one of thes best defenders I have seen this season.

I think partnered with another top defender in Vinny he would be more complete as I just though at times when watching the Napoli game he was defending for the entire side.

Nastasic and Rekik could do a job against most PL opposition but at the elite level they are way off, Nastasic proved this against Bayern at home and Chelsea at home this season.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

Mangala is who we need -- his style of play is so similar to Vinnie's. Watch this play by him in the eventual lead up to the winning goal by Quaresma. Just fantastic -- you'd swear it was Kompany back there.
