That's how protest votes work and how mainstream parties move their position. The other option is just acceptance. One could not vote but that doesn't really hurt the main parties. I don't vote for them and never will I'm just giving a reason.
The other reason is some agree with them.
Do parties con people into their beliefs or do they pander to beliefs that are already there.
You don't think Labour or the Tories lie and try to sell you something unrealistic?

It's not an "intelligent rational reason", though, is it? Pick the worst of the bunch...the biggest liars...and vote for them.

It is if you know they ain't getting in, it's not a hard concept this we ain't gonna wake up with a reform govt are we?

If you are someone who thinks the Tories should be even more about low tax smaller state for example and you think they have been useless who will your protest go to?

The dems? The greens? What intelligent rational protest vote would that be? You are putting your vote with people with completely opposite views.

I guess that depends on each person's own lives, how much they care about others and how people will live in the future. Self interest will always win the day overall though I agree.

Self-interest will — but I am talking more about self-awareness. And situational awareness. Expected value calculations aren’t something the public is very good at, which is why state-run lotteries exist.

Musk is been laughed at by gamers now, seems he’s been caught out for paying people to max out his characters in a new game that’s only just been released. Be interesting to see how he handles this, he’s proclaimed himself to be one of the top gamers in the world in a game called Diablo 4 now people reckon he’s had others play it to max it out then go on line and claim he’s the best in the world. He has become a laughing stock, next time he starts a gaming stream he is royally going to fucked over by people trolling him, that won’t help his ego. Begs the question what else does he claim to do that he actually hasn’t?

He keeps claiming he founded Tesla which is a provable lie. Tesla was founded by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning. Musk subsequently invested heavily in the company before instigating a boardroom coup which ousted both founders and enabled Musk to instal himself as CEO.
